Preparing for P@SHA Career Expo 2007 – 2, How to conduct yourself at the Expo…..
In my previous post, I discussed the preparations before attending a job fair. This post deals with friendly advice about the “D-dayâ€Â. The day when you will attend the P@SHA Career Expo 2007. I hope that before going to the venue, you would have prepared your CV and other credentials. Don’t forget to take many copies of your credentials to the venue. You must be attired in a nice formal suiting. Last but not the least; you should be at the venue as early as possible.
Now when you’ll arrive at the venue, you have to keep certain things in mind. First of all, toss away all the tension or frustration (so common in first time attendees and many experienced ones too). Keep your cool and enter the arena like a champion. Now you have to organize yourself instead of just roaming freely in the venue. You’ll see floor plans which will explain in detail about all the activities going on. Do jot down the important info in your note book. Having done that, now you should first of all target your favorite employers’ booths. If you have reached early then hopefully there would be very few candidates on each stall. Approach the representatives of the company and introduce yourself in a graceful manner. Fill out the respective forms if necessary and then wait for the interview call.
Now we’ve arrived at the most important segment of a job fair: the Interview. It is here where the future of your career will be decided. Keep in mind that there will be hundreds of candidates applying for the same position. There will be many who’ll be more qualified and experienced than you. So the key is to present yourself to the employers in the best manner. You should demonstrate your skills in such a manner which let you stand out in the crowd. If you’ve fared well at the interview then the chances of a job offer will be much higher. Now being a novice myself, I can’t deliver long sermons on each and every aspect of interview sessions, so perhaps Mr. Qazi can elaborate here. Still, I can enlighten you about my own experiences. The major points to remember are, stay confident during the interview, you should have excellent communications skills and most importantly, if you have that extra knack for the job then your chances would be brighter. By the way, I am sure most of you’ll definitely take assistance from the Cyber space, where you can find millions of tips, tricks and strategies related to Interviews.
Now coming back to the Expo, I would suggest you to visit only those employers where you can foresee a career prospect. Most of the students generally visit all the stalls on the expo, whether they are related to their professional fields or not. This is not a healthy trend to follow. You should only be concerned about the employers who are offering jobs in your relevant fields. By the way, you would have the rare opportunity of interacting with the CEOs and other bigwigs of IT and Telecom Industry of Pakistan in this Expo.
The last article of this series deals with the excellent opportunities being offered at P@SHA career fair. I am talking about the interactive workshops, the aptitude tests, Company presentations and the Career Counseling sessions. I bet everyone can benefit a lot from these activities. So Keep waiting….

Thanks for your kind comments. Of course you’ve to be well prepared and organized while attending a job fair. It’s not a picnic, as assumed by some of our students. Regards
