Karachi P@SHA Career Expo 2007 – The post-event coverage
The Career Expo in Karachi went off quite well on June 16, 2007. We had around 2000 visitors – not the large numbers that the general job fairs attract – but these were all quality people who were relevant for the companies who were exhibiting there. There were 26 company booths – all ICT companies and about half a dozen food and beverage booths.
The interview rooms were very busy because company executives didn’t want to leave off making a decision regarding hiring and preferred to interview the best ones on the spot and hire them there and then.
Some of the workshops were better attended than others. The Successful Interview Techniques workshop led by Jawwad A. Farid and the Alchemy team was a great hit. The mock interviews that were conducted taught the young people quite a lot about how to conduct themselves in a real interview scenario and how to field questions effectively.
The Career Tracks on Telecom, Networking Careers and Finance and Software Engineering went off well too. Some of the speakers were surrounded for long periods afterwards because the questions just kept flowing.
Counselling sessions were once again very well attended. This shows that young people are hungry for advice and have loads of unanswered questions.
The next Career Expo event is in Lahore on June 30 at the PC from 9 am to 5 pm. There has been a problem with the Islamabad venue which we are trying to sort out now. A new date will be announced soon.
This is a worthwhile event for our sector. Let us make sure that the other two are just as successful – in fact even more successful.
The event received coverage on the Dawn News Channel, on FM107 Apna Karachi and in Jang and News and some coverage on Geo and FM101.
