PSCIR Not Receiving Pension and Salaries Due to Negligence of MoST
In a an open letter to The Nation, the Ex- Lahore Director General of Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR), Syed Asad Mustafa, highlighted the “protracted strangulation of PCSIR” by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) by not releasing the salary and pension funds. PCSIR is one of the leading research organization in Pakistan that cater to the needs and requirements of research in science and technology in Pakistan.
According to Mustafa, the scientists are working thinly on the budgets that they are provided with.On top of this constrain, they have to face deprivation of their right of salary and pension funds. Retired employees are not given pension for months. For the ex-employees in Lahore, almost six months have passed with no pension and for regular staff it has been the case for the past two months.
It is hard for them to get their allocated salaries and pensions, they cannot even think about getting the increment the government announced. Since, Ministry of Finance is obligated to release funding according to the needs of each of the other ministries, the MoST also must have been allocated with their quota of money, but they have been negligent to pass it down to the people who deserve to get paid for their hard work.
This is something that has been an issue with not just PCSIR, but all other government institutes, especially related to the socio-economic development of the country, cry out for the same reason. If only there was a strict accountability and check and balance kept, that such corruption will not occur. Most certainly the officials responsible should be asked the right questions and demanded answers. The concerned authorities must look into the matter and respect our scientists who dedicate their lives to progress of Pakistan.
