Startup weekend starts with a Bang!
So Startup Weekend Lahore started with a bang, There were 22 outstanding startups who launched on the event. If you were unfortunate like I was and did not attend the event in person, or you are resident of another city, twitter was buzzing with what happened at the event.
The Hastag for event was and just going through it tells what a wonderful event it must have been.
I am grateful to Sohail Abid for making our lives easy and doing a great listing of products and results of the event (his Id is ).

Winners of this round of Startup Weekend were Group Photo, an appliction which allows you to take group photos in which, photographer is also present, it seems to solve a very unique problem that most of us face on a daily basis, where there have to be either two pictures of same group (with two people switching the job of picture taking ) or a single picture in which one member is missing. The team had worked under Dr Sohaib at LUMS Vision Lab.
Runners up were Sotlet which are trying to create some thing similar to Shopify. While Glass Press and Cloudclinik tied for third place. Glasspress enables you to generate a mobile app from a wordpress blog while Cloudclinik is an online e-health solution from mid to small medical practitioners.
1st Startup : CloudOnThe move ” cloud based platform for logistic industry.”
2nd Startup : Cashless Campus aims to introduce a university wide smart card that can be used to make payments.
3rd Startup: Instant Coupons was apparently missing in action at the time of presentation.
4th Startup: “SmartRooms wants to generate digital content for each grade in a school”
5th startup: Lamp, location aware meeting planner
6th startup: Dropout Magazine, a digital media organisation to promote entrepreneurs through regular events and a tech blog
7th startup: Seed, the easiest way to share food with those who need it. It basically targets to enable people to share their leftover food with ones who need it.
9th startup: Co-Reader is an fb app for blogs/newspapers, they get virality element in return. Some thing similar to what current Washington post app does.
10th startup: CloudClinik.com, online ehealth system for small to mid scale practitioners.
11th startup: GlassPress, generates mobile app from a WordPress blog that you can launch on app store
12th startup: SocialMatri.com lets you find a life partner, boasts that it’s reliable (as it’s based on fb graph)
13th startup: Entrepreneurship Platform wants to institutionalize entrepreneurs. It feels like Y Combinator
14th startup: Sooraj Bijli wants to give you an assembled system to generate electricity (and hot water) from sunlight.
15th startup: SalePoint wants to be shopify of pakistan + direct classifieds.
16th startup: Higher.EDU aims to bring admission programs at one portal so that candidates can apply to multiple universities from one place.
17th startup: YouPin.com lets you make an online pin board.
19th startup: Pool My Vehicle () wants to bring car sharing to Pakistan, with profiles, ratings, etc.
20th startup: MedReminder is a smartphone app (with sms integration) that reminds you to take meds
21st startup: Virtual Mirror, a kiosk unit where you can see yourself in the cloths the shop offers. It is also a team which worked under Dr Sohaib.
22nd and last startup: Sotlet is ‘social outlet’. Another idea to bring shopify to Pakistan
So all in all it seemed like an exciting event if even half of these products make it to a proper launch it will really be something. Lots of congratulations to the organizers for organizing this wonderful event, and hope it returns soon to other cities as well.

Nice to see this happening.
Were all of these actual startups with prototypes or things made in the field, or concepts that they’d want to make?
Also, whoever organized this REALLY REALLY needed to do a better job of filtering out things like Startup 17 and 18 – VERY disappointing too those there.
