image Ali Raza (from the Mulazamat fame which is sadly dead now it seems) announced that they’re launching mygoodiesshop.com, which has a similar premise to snapfish, zazzle and other such services. You can send them your design and have custom tshirts, mugs and what-have-you made and shipped by them.

They’re also adding a small community twist to it in case you dont have your own artwork… as Ali explains it:

If you ask us to design it for you, we will announce a competition asking all designers all over the world to design the merchandise for you. Winner gets one complete package for FREE.

They currently have such a competition running for the upcoming PASHA ICT Awards on their site.

Alright… not that many of you are interested in my thoughts on it, but I dont think this is the right approach for communities – it doesnt give enough reasons for the people who need the tshirts and people who’ll design them to get involved.

I also think its pretty convenient to work with local printers now who will do the same thing via email orders and 100% payment on delivery if they know you well enough.

Still, we’re just supposed to encourage the young kids right? So good luck with it and all that.

P.S. If someone’s applied to the ICT awards and need any tips or advice regarding APICTA or the awards themselves feel free to email

  • Alright, I am going to be very honest here.

First, Ali is a great talent — no questions about that but this idea seems to be an origination out of frustration rather than creativity. The site lacks the message about what its all about, it also lacks a direction.

I think Ali can be doing so many great things and I am sure he has a mind full of brilliant ideas, he just needs to find the right execution pattern.

I hope and wish him all the best in future but i wanted to show that i am disappointed by this venture..

  • Ali Mirza

    @Obaid,

I am curious how did you sense “frustration” in the idea? I mean sure it’s nothing original so may be not creative either but how can it be out of frustration? When I get frustrated I don’t launch clones of other business ideas (but may be that’s just me!)…

“I think Ali can be doing so many great things … needs to find the right execution pattern.”

Can you please share your thoughts here regarding what could be the ‘right’ execution ‘pattern’ for the benefit of the community and Ali? May be this can become a good case study too, with regards to what should or should not be done.

    Looking forward to constructive comments.

  • Sohail

Lol! He is back with a new fake startup!
Just like Mulazamat, it seems nothing but a few pages static site and lots of boasting blog posts :)
I’m looking forward for another post on GnW about acquirement of his GoodiesShop in few millions ;)

  • farzal

ICT R&D and goodiesshop in the same article?

    What the hell?

A great commercial idea, maybe, it’s successful in many countries. But technology wise, this is just an online purchase order form o/b/o printers and designers

  • Not ICT R&D Farzal – Pasha ICT Awards. Goodies shop is running a tshirt design contest for the upcoming awards.

Speaking of which – know anyone who’s submitted to the awards?

  • @Ali Mirza:

The whole idea lacks the attractiveness and the site really shows how much “thought” has been put behind it. I am not going to outline a business model here in the comments, coz that’s worth something. I am sure Ali Raza can find that out himself.

Look there is nothing wrong with copying an existing idea, especially in Pakistan where we need these sort of business/service enhancements to progress the country. The part which kills me, is the thought put behind it to make it successful.

As mentioned by Sohail, I have yet to hear anything about Mulazamat after it was “acquired” …

  • Should we really call it a start-up? A website that’s not even put up properly. 2nd page of the website is nothing but 3 sliced images! I believe Ali Raza Sheikh has placed another bluff in the market just to tell “he’s still around!” – little man, not everything is like a game.

I totally agree with Sohail and Ali Mirza, and I hope to hear much more about Mulazmat rather than just some fairy tales.

Good luck with your ‘MyFooliesShop’ – and yea, please hire someone to do SEO for you!

  • Sumair? Isnt Ali your boss?

Everyone else – sure its a landing page but if execution is everything then lets just see how they turn out… I think if the community does tackle it actively it can become a pretty interesting and stable revenue generating arm

  • Oh, please don’t! I know the way he runs Nuvica, hiring employees/internees and not paying them for months!!

  • Sumair – this public forum isnt the place at all for these types of gripes and complaints.

Be a good professional and take these concerns up with him in private over dinner on friendly terms.

    Hear his side out too..

Also as a general note – everything is becoming messy with the impending financial crises so also try to think of what the bigger picture could be, if any.

    Chill

  • Bad_Experience_WIth_Nuvica

I would have to agree with some of the previous posters. I’ve dealt with Ali/Nuvica to outsource some software development work earlier this year. And I had the most unprofessional experience of my life. I had to deal with Blatant lying, absurd excuses and about a dozen unanswered emails, IMs and phone calls.

After wasting several months-during which I was given a half completed product, I just wrote off the advance money I gave him as a sunk cost and took the project somewhere else.

@Ali: Just remember that customers are not stupid. Maybe they sometimes bear with you hoping to just get their work completed.

  • Again, the same idea with the the anonymous commenter – please take it up with Ali directly. This isnt the place for a public hanging or libel.

Constructive criticism and libel is miles apart

  • I am not sure about the Nuvica operations. I have not dealt directly with Ali Raza but from what I have read about him over the past year or so gives me the feeling that he is capable of doing something good.

I am going to give him a benefit of “pre-launch” page and see how this business develops.

I hope that it doesn’t get acquired by some “unknown” firm before the official launch.. :)

CCP Gives Guidelines Against Telecom Companies’ Deceptive Marketing

If only were there two things when it comes to the law, firstly the fear of breaking it and by passing the legal authority, and secondly, implementation of the law given full dedication, there would have been less competency and dishonesty in business and society. However, keeping good faith, the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has put forward “Deceptive Marketing Guidelines” which will maintain the Section 10 of the Competition Act, 2010. In order to enforce this part of the law and stop anti-competitive conduct on part of the telecom companies in advertising, the guidelines have been shared with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other concerned telecommunication sector members, in …

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) was supposed to have completed the system of biometric SIM verification by now, but it has been delayed. The biometric SIM verification system was required for purchase of new connections. The delay had been caused by the absence of decision-making officials at the PTA. The other parties concerned with this new system to be introduced, both the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) and the telecom companies are all prepared for this new system to take over.

The absence of officials has been caused by the internal problems that PTA has been going through one after the other. After the dismissal of the former chairman Farooq …

E-Waste Recycling Workers in Pakistan Get Exposed to Toxic Fumes, Environment is Threatened

Toxic fumes from e-waste in Pakistani villages have become a major environmental and health hazard. Mostly pure people from the villages burn these e-waste products, those computers, devices and gadgets that have been discarded irresponsibly by the users and various companies. In Pakistan, there said to exist a secret, in words illegal, e-waste recycling cottage industry that has been recently reported several times. The attention of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) toward the drastic situation these toxic fumes lead to must be focused on solving the issue as they are part of the market.
