Oh boy – we’ve barely gotten back from Lahore and had a chance to breathe and rest and get over the flu that came with the arctic cold front that passed through here, when Karachi is already ready for another coffee session!

Startup Insiders #4 is sponsored by Alchemy Technologies and will be held in the Marriot Karachi from 630-830pm on February 8th.

This time around, they are focusing on answering just three important questions:

  • Who is my customer – how do I find their pain?
  • How do I find my customer and reach out to him to get him to pay attention?
  • How do I sell to them, and what do I sell to them? When do I sell it?

Ok its more than three questions but it follows a specific theme so should be interesting.

The Panel this time includes:

  • Jawwad Farid, CEO Alchemy Technologies
  • Yusuf Jan, CEO, Mixit Technologies
  • Amer Hashmi, Founder and CEO, SI3
  • Adnan Agboatwalla, Co-founder, PixSense
  • Faisal Qureshi, CEO Kolachi Advanced Technologies
  • Jehan Ara, President, PASHA

Get everyone you know to show up – we need to break records and make
sure there’s a lot of videos of the event up at YouTube just after it.

  • I don’t know if it is the Panel or just a ripple effect from the last three events … but the registrations began pouring in 2 minutes after I put up the post. Absolutely exhilirating!

  • Not to mention your comment that appeared 3 mins after this post – I guess us CEOs never sleep

  • Never say never! ;-)

  • Oey, all of you fans out there, catch a plane and show up in Karachi on Friday…we have a few surprises in the format for you…

  • That was Jawwad btw

  • Hi Osama,

I have a little suggestion for you and Jehan Ara, see if you people can sort this out:

I was thinking may be in the last hour of Startup Insiders session, you can provide an opportunity for new startups to showcase their work? Like giving 10-15 minutes to each startup to describe their work. By “new startups” I mean those who are planning to launch a startup and have their product ready and want to showcase it to other peers and industry leaders to get advise and comments (and also possible investment.)

I have seen such events happening in other countries like the infamous TechCrunch40 event:

The format is simple: Forty of the hottest new startups from around the world will announce and demo their products over a two day period at TechCrunch40. And they don’t pay a cent to do this. They will be selected to participate based on merit alone. (more)

(posted this suggestion at her blog too)

  • We have some things in the plans – hopefully will be able to plan them out between PASHA and GNW and do them.

  • Althought I have responded to Sohail’s suggestion on my own blog, I thought I would share it here as well.

Sohail, your idea is a good one and it is already being discussed at the SI organizational level. We want to fine-tune it a bit so that we are offering a quality program which ends up providing value to both startups and potential investors.

Keep the ideas coming. Remember, although this has been initiated by P@SHA and Green&White, it is a community event so it is up to all of us to evolve it into something that will work for us all.

  • Osama & Jehan,

Thank you for responding and already working this out! I will be looking forward. Live Happy :)

  • I want in – I just started work in Pakistan and wasn’t aware of Startup Insiders.

I have tried to get registered, but keep getting failure notification. Can one more seat be arranged for a potential enterpreneur :) ?

    Regards

  • Adnan you have been registered. See you tomorrow.

  • oh no…I just see on pasha blogs that the registeration is required for todays event…can I do it right now???

  • Fahad, try registering or as Jawwad or Jehan said in their blogs you can always stand

  • We missed you Osama, here’s our coverage of the event:

CCP Gives Guidelines Against Telecom Companies’ Deceptive Marketing

If only were there two things when it comes to the law, firstly the fear of breaking it and by passing the legal authority, and secondly, implementation of the law given full dedication, there would have been less competency and dishonesty in business and society. However, keeping good faith, the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has put forward “Deceptive Marketing Guidelines” which will maintain the Section 10 of the Competition Act, 2010. In order to enforce this part of the law and stop anti-competitive conduct on part of the telecom companies in advertising, the guidelines have been shared with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other concerned telecommunication sector members, in …

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) was supposed to have completed the system of biometric SIM verification by now, but it has been delayed. The biometric SIM verification system was required for purchase of new connections. The delay had been caused by the absence of decision-making officials at the PTA. The other parties concerned with this new system to be introduced, both the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) and the telecom companies are all prepared for this new system to take over.

The absence of officials has been caused by the internal problems that PTA has been going through one after the other. After the dismissal of the former chairman Farooq …

Mobile Operators to Sell SIMs through Postal Service

Mobile phone companies are uncertain about the new SIMs sales system that has been formed by the Prime Minister. Two of the three mobile operators have introduced SIM sales through postal service which had been suggested by the Interior Minister. Since the decline of the SIMs sales, the mobile phone operators switched to a new method of reaching the local market, mostly through courier services.

Previously, there had been some doubts as to whether this is an effective way to take as an alternative and many thought it was not viable. One of the mobile operators have given options to their customers of calling or sending an SMS at their …
