SocialLinks.co is a service launched by Ali Ibrahim who is the CEO of D3velopers a web 2.0 company. SocialLink creates small popups around html links in your website or blog.
SocialLinks.co was launched on 16th March 2011 and since then 2000+ link popups have been created using this service and more people have started to embed the script on their blogs and websites.
Hyperlinks is one of the things, that i see has never changed over the period of years. So my idea is why not have a service that that make external hyperlinks that are embedded on the webpages more informative and useful? To do this, we determine the external links on the webpages and show the users with a small summary about the website, its title, an image from the page, and few related keywords (4 at max) from the page. This gives a user small preview of what the link is all about. To make this a little social and giving a user some realtime information on the related keywords, we provide links to real time google, twitter results and also some best websites on the same topics. For Example: Imagine a link related to Japan Tsunami embedded on some page, people i believe would like to know more about what others people around the globe are saying about it, what are the related websites on the same topics etc. Right now, we are still in very early days and trying to make this service as useful as it can be and making the bot (that crawls the information) more accurate. However, to make it more engaging and useful, we are also in the process of providing some tools to user where they can edit the popup information for the external links (not to mention, that all of this user editing of popups will go through a patrolling process). In this way the information on the hovering popup box will be more accurate. There are 2 ways to use this service: 1. One is by embedding the script where every external link on the webpage will have a popup on mouse hover. 2. For a little advanced users, we provide another script, which the users can use to apply the social link to only particular hyperlinks only. Details are at http://sociallinks.co/usage There is a lot more that we plan to do in it and we would hopefully be rolling out some more features in the days to come.
