This is some thing which comes up at almost every discussion I have with people who are working in the software development area. With the recent exponential growth in the mobile development areas, there exists a great difference between people who have been around for some time and recent software developers in the Mobile App development area.
So on average the starting salaries of are around 35~40, across all areas of development. However with in 6 months a mobile app developer is able to switch his job for at-least 50% raise taking him to around 60k with in a year. Due to very high demands the Organizations in this field also some time close eyes to the fact that his experience falls way short. For people who join other areas like Java development database or server-side programming, specially in larger firms like NetSol and Techlogix growth pattern is slow and stable with pre decided increments and career path. What happens in the end is that with in a year of Graduation there exists a huge difference of Pay for graduates of the same batch some sitting at around 60k plus (in some cases I have heard 75 k) where as the ones in larger firms and working on other areas are around 45~50.
Something which will hit our industry and is coming fast is that due to this un natural raise, individual’s appetite for growth is wrongly set, and his expectations of a double figure growth every time he gets a raise are set. This wrong expectations result in people hopping around jobs to remain on the salary growth curve and with in few years completely destroying their track record as an individual on whom an organization can depend for more than six months.
