Where does the Software Industry of Pakistan stand during this current financial crisis? Your thoughts?

Every one knows that world is suffering from financial crisis these days and it seems that this situation will continue for more time. Keeping past is consideration, we can say that IT/Software Industry always take effect of such things very badly. We know what happened after 9/11 specially in Pakistan. That time I was working in a software house as VB6 developer. This also effected our company and lot of us included me were terminated. So the question is that is Pakistan SW  industry capable enough to tolerate this new fear?…………….I think Yes to some extend as now our industry has established itself. Most of the software houses here have projects which are required to run the business of a client like NetSol has leasing softwares, i2c has banking related softwares etc etc. So I think we can servive this situation infact curretnly serviving. No doubt it will have some impact on our industry but hopefully won’t damage us much…………………………..What you guys think? please share your thoughts….

  • Green n White’s quality is going down. Someone save this site!

  • The recession is blessing in disguise for the local IT industry, even though it spells disaster for most businesses. It will expose fundamental, structural weaknesses in the setup leading to major realization, and hopefully major rethink. This is needed. The few who are brave will embrace the new reality and make the required changes to become more competitive, globally. Others will simply fail. Which is fine. In times of recession only those who deserve success, get success – it becomes easy to filter the good from the bad. An ideal time for self-analysis. The economic tsunami will leave behind a set of truths on which to build the future of the IT industry. These truths will be invaluable. To sum it up – I’m optimistic :)

  • Suggestion: User posts – if this was one – should be accessible from a “Community” section/forum. The GnW main page should only display posts from authorized/official contributors to sustain quality and maintain credibility.

  • I can’t understand why Mahmood consider this thread as poor quality. I think it is an important topic. Will comment on this thread soon……..

  • Jaywalker – its your site now. Why’re you letting the quality go down? Step up and take charge, fix the issues.

  • Haha. I didn’t know the new user-generated initiative was already underway! This should be fun! So how do I post?

Regarding this post – I didn’t say anything about it being poor. Kami has a valid concern and he has the opportunity at GnW to pose the question to the community. I’m simply suggesting the possibility of creating a Q&A forum where people can share questions or concerns with the rest of the community. The main platform could be a place for opinion-pieces… or something along those lines… simply to make the new “user-generated” GnW as reader-friendly as it can be.

In short – I’m not really saying anything! :)

  • Mahmood, just register at http://greenwhite.org/wp-register.php and go from there… login and start posting.

You have a good idea with the QA forum – but its a matter of putting it together and in this case we’ll need everyone to pitch in in all places. Would you know anyone willing to put the code together to make that happen?

  • Can’t think of anyone at the moment, but will float the idea nonetheless and if I find anyone interested, I’ll connect them with you.

  • Well tell u the truth … there is no such financial crises for NetSol .(i worked in netsol) … the reason Netsol is safe is bcoz of china .. we have alot of projects of china . yes netsol has suffered a little because we didnt get as many projects that we were hopping …
clients of other regions are waiting for current crises to end . inshallah netsol will be in full business near dec this year :)

any body want to share ?

  • Hi,

Sorry i cud nt continue to my thread as i was on long annual leaves and just got back. “Unkown” y u r talkig only abt NetSol? look at the other companies as well. I know lot of ppl have left Netsol in first half of 2009 bcos of no increments. If its nt the crises then wats that? Go and visit the job portals like rozee.pk where u wud find that SW companies are hiring less experianced resources (1-3 yrs exp) bcos:
    1. They want to pay less/invest less
    2. They dont have much work/projects

So i think v r suffering but really i have observed some stability in IT industry during last couple of months but you cant say it as a recovery or boost again…..

Like to know the comments of other guys on this topic.

  • Man! in this country does not matter you have money or not as employer always has upper edge. If employer dont want to pay u then he wont as we ppl dont take action on this. Dont u ppl know the case of INNOV8 in Lahore? Those poor guys who left them or fired by INNOV8 have still not received a single penie yet. Those who filed the case are waiting for court verdict due to the old and slow judicial system of Pakistan. They made lives of their employees miserable by denying their hard earned money and still they are running their business with same name at some different location (Kot Lakhpat area). According to my information INNOV8 got crores as loan and advance of some projects at the end of last year but did not pay a single penie to poor guys. So now where is the fincial factor u r talking abt? The main thing is to change the mindset of businessmen here to run their business in fair way……

  • Yes you r right Maqsood and thats the reason that most of the talent individuals tries to go abroad for bright future. SO such companies liek INOV8 should change their mind sets else these should b penalized like legal action or bycot not only from employees but also frm the companies working with them

  • News is that again INNOV8 has started delaying salaries. They paid the salary of July 2009 at around 20th August and September salaries are still nt paid till Date. Poor employees.

  • what the hell is this?? why dont they close the company if they dont have the money to pay salaries? i think Inov8 should be banned and IT professionals should bycot this company coz they hav already disturbed many families in a country where there is no justice for the general public.

  • First of all shame on innov8 for such a bad things they are doing. Secondly Yes current financial crisis is effecting our IT Industry. These days companies are downsizing are employees are not getting reasonable salary increments and i am also effected by this. So truely and surely it is effecting us.

  • Latest updates from innov8: Salaries of October are still not paid to employees. what they are doing?

Container Run a continuation of politically motivated apps

First we had Angry Imran which brought smiles and some short lived fun for us during the election campaign. Then came Gullu Butt following the incident of Model Town Lahore, which stayed on top of charts (Pakistan play store) for quite some while. Also Gullu Butt made an update with having the famous “Aam Khaiyga” quote form Aamir Liaqat in which a character resembling Aamir Liaqt throws mangoes and the Gullu Butt character tries to catch them. Gullu butt currently has more than 100,000 Installs

And now during this extremely politically tense situation which had the whole nation on its toes on 14th August we have another app continuing the …

Rise of facebook marketing in Pakistan

Until a few years back we used to have closed groups and forums, which gathered the like minded people and anyone targeting the online audience would tap into that forum and market his/her services. So PakGamers , PakPassion initially even PakWheels used to be driven by members talking about what they loved, people used to create marketing and sales opportunities from within those discussions (so you could get a good router cheap or a gaming PC etc).
The advent of facebook changed all that, most of the forum goers moved to the new social media. It also made a very attractive market place for some one who does not …

    Getting back

I  have been out of blogging for a long long long time, a lot of things happening on personal front (including a little startup I have ben doing my self). However during my absence I met a lot of people who had followed GreenWhite at its peak, read the articles regularly.

I had hope there would be some one else who would come ahead and cover everything going on and around us in the local tech world. There are some guys doing a great job, but for some reason I still could not find one source where I can go and read about everything, so my routine usually is to …

GeniITeam has successfully launched an official app for PakistanIdol. This is one of the first collaboration between a reality game show and a local app development company. I am sure a lot more would follow. Previously we have seen seenreport becoming the basis of mostly all channels citizen reporting system (Like Geo Dost). This is a healthy sign and with the advent of 3G round the corner it should become a business generator for our local firms.

App allows you to follow the contestants that you like, promote them, comment on live feedback on an episode. It offers official content from the show since it is developed with partnership with …

CCP Gives Guidelines Against Telecom Companies’ Deceptive Marketing

If only were there two things when it comes to the law, firstly the fear of breaking it and by passing the legal authority, and secondly, implementation of the law given full dedication, there would have been less competency and dishonesty in business and society. However, keeping good faith, the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has put forward “Deceptive Marketing Guidelines” which will maintain the Section 10 of the Competition Act, 2010. In order to enforce this part of the law and stop anti-competitive conduct on part of the telecom companies in advertising, the guidelines have been shared with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other concerned telecommunication sector members, in …
