Corporate Blogging Emerging in Pakistan

About the author

Mansoor is a process improvement advisor and executive trainer by profession and an avid dreamer and thinker in his free time. He is highly opinionated of the world around him and chooses blogs to express some of these opinions for the world to critique. He is a born and bred karachiite but now living life large in islamabad.

Slowly but surely, corporate blogging is taking hold in Pakistan. Even though we mostly see employee’s posting comments on various blogs (the Wateen story) or posting on behalf of their companies on other blogs, I think the day is not far when we see mainstream corporate entities in Pakistan setting up their blogs to converse with the public.

According to ISPAK, there are almost 17 million internet users in Pakistan. Out of these, 1.9 million are reading blogs! (according to  Universal Mcann Report:Wave 3, March 2008), and 0.9 million are writing them!

Now that’s a whole lot of market!

What got me to actually write this post, was a recent job posting on Telenor for a Marketing Officer at Islamabad. One of the job requirements for this post is “Blogging on different communities on internet”. Telenor runs a number of employee  blogs worldwide, and it’s refreshing to see this approach being used in Pakistan.

well taking Telenor into mind with relation to blogging i think it is a great initiative and also a 380 degree approach i have recently seen their new offers promoted on various blogging sites..together with this they have been advertising on various website and social networks as well…this becomes easier for people to get to know the recent updates and others point of view as well… especially for those who follow a busy schedule and dont have much time either to get updated thru tv or anyother medium….according to me its a great way to reach out to the masses.
