Xtravo Explorer: Genius of a 19 year old Pakistani

December 26, 2008 5:02 pm 111 comments

Imran Sheikh, 19 has developed, what is considered the fastest IE-based browser to date, Xtravo Explorer. Though still in its beta version, this browser has caught the attention of not only the local media but also has gained mass popularity worldwide. The explorer is powered by IE, and its requirements include 10 megabytes (MB) of hard disk drive (HDD), 128 of random access memory (RAM), Net Framework 2 (Compulsory) and Windows Operating System.

Salient features of Xtravo are tab browsing, short cuts, fast browsing, Integrated RSS feeds and Integrated DOM introspection. its advanced pop up blocker, provides its users with safe and secure browsing. However, The individuality of this explorer is not only restricted to loading heavy websites within 10 seconds, but the special features for web designers: Document Reader, which allows one to review the websites coding and Image Grabber, which permits saving multiple pictures at the same time. Also, the improved ftp uploader through which webpages can be uploaded by simply typing: ftp.yourdomain.com.

User reviews on various websites have termed Xtravo as user friendly. However, Sheikh Imran is yet to attain larger mainstream recognition on this remarkable breakthrough of his in the information technology sector of Pakistan. With such a vast list of evangelists while still in its beta version, the explorer is sure to head for great success.

PC Magazine covered this in Oct 2009 as pointed out by our reader Fariha, I am putting in a comment from it here is the complete link

Web browser XTravo Explorer surprised me. Although I can’t say this free browser is going to kick Firefox off my system anytime soon, it at least has some interesting ideas. It’s worth checking out.

  • its a nice browser. i found almost all my needs from this.

MAY GOD BLESS PAKISTAN WITH LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO TAKE PAKISTAN TO THE HIGHTS OF GLORY.

  • Bilal Ahmed

I am so proud of this guy, he has made all of us so Proud of being Pakistani.

Inshallah he will make Big Time one day and show the World Pakistani are the Best.

    Ameen!

  • PEOPLE the same kid has created his OWN SEARCH ENGINE.

The Creator of xtravo explorer has created a search engine. check it here http://www.jawoco.com

    Its awesome. It is cool.

  • I must say, that the kid’s website is quite professional, and seems quite ambitious.
As far as the product is concerned, its not very impressive (just an IE control), still, applaud him on the effort put in posing and marketing it as a finished product. Keep it up!.

As far as the comments of some people, go here, that Microsoft will buy it, is utter, utmost stupid nonsense I have heard for sometime. Only ignorant people can shoot such lame comments.

  • Xtravo Explorer 3 OS has released worldwide. This the Major Web Browser Upgrade. Offers all features like Firefox & Chrome.

  • What the hell you people wasting your time on this fucking browser….. this is not a browser yaar, just a game of drag and drop in .net code.
i also heard that this guy is 17 years old, some says he is 19 years old…. i dont know what the hell is going on…..

  • yar the xtrovo explore is not downloading from any web i have tried a many web but after downloading it says [The application failed to initialize propery(0×c0000136).click on ok to terminate the application.] what to do now?

  • download .NET Framework 2

  • To all the people who think that “its just a drag and drop” , “built in controls” etc etc. its sad that s all nothing but typical pakistani attitude(no offence meant) of not appreciating anything which is done by someone else and not by themselves.

And if all you think that only Pakistani media captured this , its quite strange none of you reads stuff like PC World which published its own review of this Xtravo in its October issue in 2009 … now american tech dept wont do that without any credibility and certainly a magazine of that merit

Not to forget the maker of this was also offered FulBright Scholarship by USA in July 2009 – USA does not goes around offering grants just randomly ..

So all of you just be glad someone from Pakistan got a positive recognition and did something constructive.

Take a moment to think what anyone of you has ever done constructive even if its “drag and drop” idea :)

  • @Fariha thanks for pointing it out, I agree with you, also i don’t know how many of us would be able to do such a feat at 19 years of age even if it was dragging and dropping. updating the article with the link

  • Way to go!!
All those who were about to create this browser in 2 days by dragging and dropping! Pleaseeeeeeeee start doing something of your own!

A message for People who think it can be done in 2 days:

If babies could have been born by talking shit like what you are doing here, You must had the highest number of babies!!

    Stop criticizing!!! FroGod Sake!!

I love what Qurtaba are doing in a niche area of Urdu Language. Although their start was from Nan-Map for which they now have an iPhone App.There love for Urdu language related apps has been flourishing in recent months. Most of their apps are doing very well on app store, some impressive numbers for their popular Urdu apps are as follows.

    Food Connection Pakistan

I happened to be in Quetta on a business trip last month with no idea of where to dine alone. Being a typical Lahoriite, a die-hard food lover, it matters to me that I try the best food of the place I visit. So this is where FCPakistan came to my rescue. I simply logged in, typed in my desired specifications and got atleast 5 suggestions.

The listing included their opening times, specific facilities like ease for physically disabled customers, credit card acceptance, smoking areas, take away facility, whether valet parking was available or not, and even directions to get there! What more could you want.

    Although that was the…

OLX Pakistan Investing heavily in advertisement

OLX is a global online retailer and auction site. They have an impressive footprint in a little less than 100 countries, each with their own specific domain (like .pk for Pakistan and .in for India).

In Pakistan they have been operating under olx.com.pk for some time with people using it to sell things online.

Recently they have started advertising heavily on Television, a medium seldom used by online businesses previously. The ads (two of which have appeared ) are witty and fun to watch.

The most important factor of these adds is that they are being advertised on media which previously none of our online businesses have used.

    Most of…

Second Pakistan Blog Awards by CIO Faces severe criticism

CIO Pakistan started blog awards last year. Its is a good sign when some one takes initiative and starts some thing new. However its also difficult to introduce this into an already budding field of new media in Pakistan. Last years (or two years back now since its 2012)  Awards were initiated so as it is expected it faced initial growing up pains. It always takes time for such thing to wins the trust of the community. And bloggers are one of the most hard people to win over, most of these are rebels in their own rights people who have started blogging to show the world their opinion…

Do We Vote : A great statistical tool by PakReport.org

Pakreport.org a tool which was instrumental in gathering statistics during the massive flooding in Pakistan, has created another study/stats gathering tool for our electoral activities. Interestingly its called do we vote

With political scene in Pakistan heating up it provides very valuable information to party supporters and their leaders.  A quick look at it shows the all known facts that people in rural areas take their voting more seriously than all of us supposedly educated and enlightened urban population.

Pakreport.org was an initiative launched by Faisal Chohan of BrightSpyre during the floods, the effort enabled people on the ground to send sms (the most spread out communication medium in country)…

Stay for the work not the perks

This is a revelation that came to me when I recently quit my comfy corporate job for the second time. If you are below 40 and some one asks you about how is your job going and your answer is not in tune of “I like my job because I love the work”.

You need to pause and asses your career, last time I answered this question my answer was “I like the job, because the benefits are good”, and that made me think (offcourse there were other factors as well). But if you are doing a job in which to satisfy your own self you have to look at…
