NTT DoCoMo acquires 26% stake in Tata Teleservices
Japanese telecom giant NTT DoCoMo acquired a 26% stake in Tata Teleservices for $2.7 billion.
DoCoMo will also make an open joint tender offer with Tata Sons, the holding firm of the group, to buy up to 20 percent in a listed unit of Tata Tele, as required by Indian law, Reuters reported.
Tata Teleservices, currently on CDMA, is expected to launch GMS service in January 2009.
DoCoMo is aggressively looking for new investment opportunities – with a focus on South Asian market as it has also recently bought stakes in Bangladesh’s TM International. So the company will enter the Pakistani market? There are speculations about indirect investments through Etisalat but we have yet to get any reliable information.
