World Usability Day is on November 13, 2008, and in the spirit of creating global discussion on the importance of usability in the world today, we want to bring people in the industry together to join in the conversation. Usability is an incredibly important part of software, yet is grossly missing as knowledge from within the industry. Software engineers think its the graphic designers problem, graphic designers think its too technical so must be a software issue. Everyone makes it their last priority and dont consider it to have any impact on ROI (especially services firms).
We really need to get people to get out of that box of thinking, and I want to invite you all to help everyone else get there.
Over the next 10 days, we want to invite you – people from the community – to contribute articles, thoughts or ideas related to usability, user research, clean interfaces, futuristic user design, what have you… and we’ll highlight it here.
Lets try to really offer solid reasons for local firms to consider more usable designs, or atleast debate the issue here.
At the end of the 10 days, we’re planning to hold a number of simultaneous events or workshops in Lahore and Islamabad to show movies or hold some discussion oriented sessions on the issues.
We’ve set up a live-blog and stream in Lahore already, we’ve planned the event in Islamabad…. but more needs to be done still, so if you want to get involved this is the best time.
We need more live bloggers in islamabad / lahore; We need a place with seating for about 40 people in Islamabad; and we need people in Karachi who want to throw a GnW usability party in karachi… either at a university or at their offices.
Its the future of using software that actually works thats at stake here. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org to coordinate.
