Now talk live with other people reading GnW at the same time

We’ve tried this a couple of ways before, but as BumpIn leaves its private beta they were kind enough to help us set it up at Green & White too. Using the chat-widget on the right, you can now talk live with whoever is reading G&W at that time as well. If you’re at – you can broadcast to leave general feedback or comments like as in a guest book, or talk to any of our editors about stories you want to see. If you’re reading a particular story, you can have a live conversation or leave comments for everyone else who’ll be reading that story too. Do check there often because we’ll be using the chat widget to ask your opinions about developing stories from time-to-time before we publish them too

  • what’s the big deal simple script :p

You might have used meebo… or made one for yourself. Easy stuff.

  • you know i hate it when people read tech blogs make comments and dont actually know a shit !! meebo doesnt let you put a chat widget on YOUR website. it only has chat rooms on its OWN website.

  • actually meebo does give a chat thing to put on your page. But with that, only the admin can chat with users that come on the website. does the same. Bumpin is different. it lets people talk to each other and can shout messages to all. in any case its really well done and seems to work very well !!

  • bumpin enables live chat with people visiting same website or story. other dosent provide this feature. very well done. i love user interface

  • Spurious go do your research first before commenting.

  • BumpIn turns each web page into a chat room; meebo, userplane etc. are traditional web chat clients. In other other words, in the service offered by Userplane and BumpIn, they are somewhat similar — but their model is very different. One is designed to enable discussions around content (BumpIn), the other (userplane, meebo) provides a standard web IM, with traditional chatrooms etc.

I, however, really object to the comment made by Corona. “You might have used meebo… or made one for yourself. Easy stuff.” Meebo and userplane are both valuated at around $100 Million each. Such a comment shows complete ignorance of technology on Corona’s part. We should be proud of the fact that a Pakistani startup has entered this very hot space, with an product that appears to have all the ingredients to capture the market. Also checkout the chat browser plugin on bumpin’s site — that’s quite a tech gizmo!

  • Thank you Usman for details, I will definitely look into it.

  • I agree with Usman Khan. BumpIn is not just an IM for chatrooms, it’s much more. Especially their Firefox plugin is the coolest and most usable product in this domain so far, though they don’t seem to have attracted enough traffic on it yet. They even have BumpIn live for those who are apprehensive of installing another firefox plugin and want to try it first – check it out at

Despite being the best product in this market so far, I don’t know why they have not advertised it properly over the Internet!

  • As usual, stupid arguments and stupid comments. I don’t even want to talk about what Meebo et al. can or cannot do since I am pretty darn sure that none of you have even tried implementing Meebo Rooms on your website, or for that matter the APIs of any other sites that have been discussed on this thread.

Awww sure, it is a Pakistani company and being Green & White we should hug it but honestly people, get real. Beating the same old dead horse over n over again is not getting us anywhere.

P.S. Best products on the market (read Internet) hardly need to be advertised. 😉

  • On a more serious note, it is seriously not about the technology. You can build the Large Hadron Collider into your teeny weeny lil web app and no one will bat an eyelid unless you web app does something useful.

A quick show of hands. Who feels that we have time and/or need to talk to random people on the really cool websites we visit?

  • Tim O’Reilly perfectly puts my sentiments in words . He wants us to get serious.

  • Show of hands !! . i Doooo. i Dooo

  • Maxi you just replied (3 times) to “random people on a cool website” — should we count you in also?

  • Why so much hatred towards each other…. cant we seriously be mature enough to make a point without calling the other person an idiot?

  • Seriously folks, cheer up… if we work together, we may have some semblence of making it as a society. Otherwise why not just drop down to cannibalism and be done with it

Its ok for someone to not know the full picture when they’re commenting. Lets learn from each other huh

  • Osama you are right so let me reply seriously

Maxi here is what i think.

When personal computers first came out. No body really knew why they should have one at their home. It was just so charismatic!! thats all. I remember microsoft’s ad saying their windows 95 has a Digital Clock !!. it turns out that when millions of people had a PC (may be they wanted to have a digital clock or play games, etc :p), internet had a chance to be invented.

the thing is you never know how people can use your product. All you can do is put your idea to reality. People will find a way to use it. The moto is to have fun and let your creativity flow. If you think too much trying to figure out whats serious, you may limit your potential. Maybe this chat widget is a stupid idea but thats one opinion. people may find an excellent use for it. just give them a chance

  • if there is anybody readin this right now if u have a meebo contact me at pepsquad1paige i need a few friends in my chat room so anyways write me back on my chat room o and any guys over 14 dont write me please thank you luv ya’ll

  • just a question for maxi are u a boy or a girl and how old r u

Container Run a continuation of politically motivated apps

First we had Angry Imran which brought smiles and some short lived fun for us during the election campaign. Then came Gullu Butt following the incident of Model Town Lahore, which stayed on top of charts (Pakistan play store) for quite some while. Also Gullu Butt made an update with having the famous “Aam Khaiyga” quote form Aamir Liaqat in which a character resembling Aamir Liaqt throws mangoes and the Gullu Butt character tries to catch them. Gullu butt currently has more than 100,000 Installs

And now during this extremely politically tense situation which had the whole nation on its toes on 14th August we have another app continuing the …

Rise of facebook marketing in Pakistan

Until a few years back we used to have closed groups and forums, which gathered the like minded people and anyone targeting the online audience would tap into that forum and market his/her services. So PakGamers , PakPassion initially even PakWheels used to be driven by members talking about what they loved, people used to create marketing and sales opportunities from within those discussions (so you could get a good router cheap or a gaming PC etc).
The advent of facebook changed all that, most of the forum goers moved to the new social media. It also made a very attractive market place for some one who does not …

    Getting back

I  have been out of blogging for a long long long time, a lot of things happening on personal front (including a little startup I have ben doing my self). However during my absence I met a lot of people who had followed GreenWhite at its peak, read the articles regularly.

I had hope there would be some one else who would come ahead and cover everything going on and around us in the local tech world. There are some guys doing a great job, but for some reason I still could not find one source where I can go and read about everything, so my routine usually is to …

GeniTeam launches official app for Pakistan Idol

GeniITeam has successfully launched an official app for PakistanIdol. This is one of the first collaboration between a reality game show and a local app development company. I am sure a lot more would follow. Previously we have seen seenreport becoming the basis of mostly all channels citizen reporting system (Like Geo Dost). This is a healthy sign and with the advent of 3G round the corner it should become a business generator for our local firms.

App allows you to follow the contestants that you like, promote them, comment on live feedback on an episode. It offers official content from the show since it is developed with partnership with …

CCP Gives Guidelines Against Telecom Companies’ Deceptive Marketing

If only were there two things when it comes to the law, firstly the fear of breaking it and by passing the legal authority, and secondly, implementation of the law given full dedication, there would have been less competency and dishonesty in business and society. However, keeping good faith, the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has put forward “Deceptive Marketing Guidelines” which will maintain the Section 10 of the Competition Act, 2010. In order to enforce this part of the law and stop anti-competitive conduct on part of the telecom companies in advertising, the guidelines have been shared with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other concerned telecommunication sector members, in …
