GMail unaware of daylight savings time-shift in PK
Gmail is apparently still one hour behind when it comes to showing local time (maybe its a browser/javascript issue and all websites are – I havent checked).
Thats ok though, because up through 1 hr before I landed even the Islamabad Airport was showing flight times one hour behind. Like when this experiment ran last time a few years ago, much of the population is still running on old time.
These are small impacts that we might ignore because our life isnt bound so strongly by time, but cant we just agree on daylight savings and let the world know that this would be a yearly phenomenon?
I for one like having an extra hour of daylight… it beats having to face rush-hour traffic in the dark with no street lights (thank you energy).

I have noticed similar scenario. I have kept my home pc to get synchronized with the internet Time server.
Control Panel > Date and Time properties.
When the DST Switch approached, I updated (Manually) my PC clock.
Later within a week, I realised that my time was switched back to older time.
I wonder, who is contacting to internet time servers from Pakistan.

@Salman
You can use this utility to edit your timezone on Windows and add daylight saving from 1st Sunday of June till 1st Monday of September.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/8/a/58a208b7-7dc7-4bc7-8357-28e29cdac52f/tzedit.exe
After this you can sync it with any ntp server.

@ irfan:
Thanks for sharing the link Irfan. This means I need to have this software, added to my list of Software to be installed, whenever I format my PC. You know, I am working on dreaded windows (which I have to format every six months).
There has to be another way, like bypassing this software, and updating it directly from the server.

oDesk has problems too. I think Pakistan forgot to tell ISO (not sure).

Most probably world doesn’t bother much if we are on DST or not…[/sarcasm]

The time servers (NTP) don’t care about timezones. All the timezone/DST stuff is handled by your desktop/server’s operating system.
The timezone files used by Linux/etc systems were updated several days before the DST switchover; see this post for details. I don’t know the Windows equivalent, so I switched my Windows desktops to UTC+6 — Dhaka.

@ Faried Nawaz:
Awesome. This is what I call JUGAR. I guess, for us dreading Windows users, this might be the only solution. This might create problems when someone wants to see our relation ship with UTC. For example, GMAIL or like.

Did anyone noticed the time stamp posted in this page’s comment area. The time posted in my previous comment is one hour behind.
