Pknic – whats the story?
I’m quite sure, I’m not the only one on G&W who has been facing this issue. Our root level domain operator Pknic’s site is down since 2 days. I made calls to their office number (thanks to google cache) and have been told by the attendant:
The servers are down since yesterday and we were told its a small error, which will be resolved in 2 hours but it has been almost 2 days now. Lets hope so it gets solved today. Everything is abroad, we can’t do much about it. Sorry!
The company I usually call to book my .pk & .com.pk domains also have the same story.
This brings a very important question! How is our country’s root level domain administered? Who has authority over it? If a 2 hours error is becoming a 3 days-still-not-responding issue, then how can dot com business rely on it?
Info on who controls .pk domain.

Salman, there is a discussion going on at telcom-grid-pakistan, the google group, on this very issue. Maybe you can follow the threads/investigate there and write about it here?
BTW, shouldn’t a dot com business run on a .com TLD in the first place?

Pakistan-centric approach thought for .pk domains.
Thanks for pointing me to the right direction. From their I was pointed to this wonderful discussion

Well, let’s hope it to be back today. We can only pray that all the data remains intact.

that’s an interesting call to make for sure! And interesting discussion on Tee Emm’s blog!
I hope that user who calls itself ‘PKNIC Staff’ is indeed for real (hehe) .. anyways, hope things get back to normal asap..
and I’d say NO to thoughts of moving .pk to the hands of the govt. of pakistan :-X

Service restored yesterday and everything is back to normal. The fault was really not in PKNIC’s control. I have been following the hosting company’s support pages (awesomely timely updated!)
