Team at Qurtaba have added another front to their impressive Urdu language based apps, they have launched their Alif Bay Pay app for Amazon Kindle, as well. Earlier it was released on iTunes.
I love what Qurtaba are doing in a niche area of Urdu Language. Although their start was from Nan-Map for which they now have an iPhone App.There love for Urdu language related apps has been flourishing in recent months. Most of their apps are doing very well on app store, some impressive numbers for their popular Urdu apps are as follows.
Urdu Writer: 10K downloads in 3 months – average 200 downloads…

I happened to be in Quetta on a business trip last month with no idea of where to dine alone. Being a typical Lahoriite, a die-hard food lover, it matters to me that I try the best food of the place I visit. So this is where FCPakistan came to my rescue. I simply logged in, typed in my desired specifications and got atleast 5 suggestions.
The listing included their opening times, specific facilities like ease for physically disabled customers, credit card acceptance, smoking areas, take away facility, whether valet parking was available or not, and even directions to get there! What more could you want.
Although that was the…

Coffee Session General Marketing/Adv
OLX is a global online retailer and auction site. They have an impressive footprint in a little less than 100 countries, each with their own specific domain (like .pk for Pakistan and .in for India).
In Pakistan they have been operating under olx.com.pk for some time with people using it to sell things online.
Recently they have started advertising heavily on Television, a medium seldom used by online businesses previously. The ads (two of which have appeared ) are witty and fun to watch.
The most important factor of these adds is that they are being advertised on media which previously none of our online businesses have used.
Most of…

Round 1 of TiE is about to reach its completion on 22nd of Jan, 2012 at Marriott, Islamabad in which ten teams will participate. Four teams will be shortlisted for the level 2. I also had the opportunity to participate in TiE All Asia Business Plan Competition 2012 along with my team members in the first few stages of level 1. Although we didn’t have the chance to go beyond stage1 but just participating helped us understand our own idea better and to polish our proposed technique along with development of a solid business plan. TiE all Asia Business Plan Competition provides a platform for generation and development of new…

CIO Pakistan started blog awards last year. Its is a good sign when some one takes initiative and starts some thing new. However its also difficult to introduce this into an already budding field of new media in Pakistan. Last years (or two years back now since its 2012) Awards were initiated so as it is expected it faced initial growing up pains. It always takes time for such thing to wins the trust of the community. And bloggers are one of the most hard people to win over, most of these are rebels in their own rights people who have started blogging to show the world their opinion…

Pakreport.org a tool which was instrumental in gathering statistics during the massive flooding in Pakistan, has created another study/stats gathering tool for our electoral activities. Interestingly its called do we vote
With political scene in Pakistan heating up it provides very valuable information to party supporters and their leaders. A quick look at it shows the all known facts that people in rural areas take their voting more seriously than all of us supposedly educated and enlightened urban population.
Pakreport.org was an initiative launched by Faisal Chohan of BrightSpyre during the floods, the effort enabled people on the ground to send sms (the most spread out communication medium in country)…

This is a revelation that came to me when I recently quit my comfy corporate job for the second time. If you are below 40 and some one asks you about how is your job going and your answer is not in tune of “I like my job because I love the work”.
You need to pause and asses your career, last time I answered this question my answer was “I like the job, because the benefits are good”, and that made me think (offcourse there were other factors as well). But if you are doing a job in which to satisfy your own self you have to look at…

on a side note: it shows how pathetic the microsoft’s certifications are that a 10 year old with no practicle experience has been certified by microsoft.
8:02 pm
@Haris
Does that apply to Sun’s and IBM’s certification also?

This is the story of a ten year old geek in the making kid who gets microsoft certified.
Since he now knows html, he makes a decent personal website (for a 10 year old) filled with innocent bragging, and wants to put it online.
He wants to registers his own domain (unlike some unfortunate people (*ahem* adnanali not com)), his name – babariqbal.com is still available.
He asks an uncle(?) Mr. Fakhuruddin, to register it for him in April 2006. His uncle goes to Yahoo (he’s an old dog) and registers the domain, and since he has made so much money in UAE, he gets the kid some hosting (again from yahoo) to go along with it. The yahoo server is also running hundreds of other websites but that doesn’t matter to the kid. He’s just a kid after all.
Two years pass, and as a part of the annual Yahoo! marketing campaigns, the kid is reminded that he still has 100$ in free advertising available on Yahoo, thanks to his uncle, Fakhruddin, from Dubai.
Babar has grown up, and knows what adwords are. Being an inquisitive kid, he tries the free credit out.
Now it just so happens that one of his ads lands in a certain Osama’s browser, who wonders what the kid is upto and writes a post about it, which is read by 78 people.
Another guy who has plenty of time as he is waiting for dinner reads that post, and, after using 10 minutes on research (he is efficient) writes a (rather longish) comment/story about it.

Thats … one heck of a crazy story!
10:02 am
I Totally agree with haris that this shows microsoft certifications are just tooo easy so that every one, even 10 year old pakistani boy can do that…
11:46 am
I totally disagree with all those stupids who think themselves IT gurus, They should learn from this 10 years old boy whos has done a lot & still doing specially in country where there is NO space for IT & NO future for Technology.
& by the way whats bad in it that he knows HTML & web designing…??? & whats bad that he knows how to register domain names & how to launch websites & how to place different tags on them…?? I visted his websites several times His personal website is in latest version of Flash & is very decent.
Moreover he is working with international companies for different webdesigning & E-Marketing projects.
So this is 10 Years Old & now tell you me whats the bad thing about that?
11:55 am
& Now this is for all those who failed the Microsoft & IBM exam even after a tough time & at the age of 25-30.
Please dont be disappointed & work hard.
Be positive & keep on working……………. if the kids like
Arifa Karim , Babar Iqbal,Chandar Shekar & Shafqat Sisters can beat them, then why not YOU.
1:02 pm
sohaib: lolz! you’ve got some imagination man!
jamal: “So this is 10 Years Old & now tell you me whats the bad thing about that”
1:05 pm
sohaib: lolz! you’ve got some imagination man!
jamal: “So this is 10 Years Old & now tell you me whats the bad thing about that” — granted he’s doing this in the field of IT, but isn’t this CHILD LABOR!???
call me old fashioned, but i’d still like our children to have a CHILDHOOD rather than WORKING LIFE when they’re young.
11:53 pm
i have also heard about a pakistani girl arifa karim randhaya she also met bill gates she is 11 years old. i found babar everywhere on net his personal website is amazing, these pakistani kids are asset & proud of the country I hope they shall do some wonders in future
3:54 pm
I got shock when i listened this Jubilant news on GEO TV.I got very happy that we have still such a talent which is unmatchable and I solute Babar Iqbal.I don’t really have words for him.I want to suggest him that he should comes back in pakistan and should open such a center which helps the youngsters here.I agree with him that there is no support from pakistan but we are with you please come back we really need you.Someone will must here who will listen to us.
I am now your Fan and i want to be like you.
Carry on your work and don’t forget pakistan.
12:28 pm
hey.. dats not fair to dagrade sombdy like dat..
if he has da guts he had showed it to the world..and he didnt need to clarify anyting to any body.its jst bogus dat u are jeolous of dat kid..if u have da guts then jst show it to the world…hahah!!!
5:59 pm
I agree with Jamal Hussain to what he said about Babar Iqbal but I wonder what has made him believe that Pakistan is a country where there is NO space for IT & NO future for
Technology. It is obviously NOT true. Pakistan has made some good progress in the field of IT, and specially, the future is very bright here in science and technology. Some serious global political issues are disturbing the country temporarily but still Pakistanis – The 6th biggest nation of the world, show their potential to the world time to time almost in all fields of life.
