Scrybe moves away from Calendars to…. online office? Or Basecamp?
Scrybe Corp just given their consumerbase another update about their plans after spending nearly 5 months with complete silence on what their company has been doing. According to this "major new version", the Scrybe platform will now evolve out of a calendar into something that seems to include writing pages/document and "tables", which would presumably be spreadsheets, and an "organizer", which would have the calendar plus "more".
Little is known about the depth of implementation of these items, so I cannot tell whether they are moving into the online office competition (Zoho, Google Docs) or into a more Basecamp style project management system (Writeboard, todos etc.)
They seem to be abandoning functionality updates for the calendar system when they say this:
The unfortunate consequence of this is that we cannot quote a hard time line for and there will be no functionality updates for the current version, although we will continue to support any issues you have via our forum or email.
The little they have announced about their business model is that their calendar component will remain free but the full suite will have a premium charge associated with it. Here is a sneak preview:
What do you think about this move?

I have been keeping an eye on Scrybe recently. This current course of action has confused me. These guys built a very good Calendar which earned them kudos + dolares. Has VC influence forced them to grow up and be some one they did not startup as?
I do not see ‘web scale’ utilization of their Calendar application. So why then go on and either build an alternative online office suite. I had a look at their application but it still has not made me abandon Google Calendar or switch from my 30Boxes account. Shouldn’t these guys be more focused on activation, retention and referral activities?

I don’t understand how this works. They have had the Beta in invite only more for a year. It is still invite only. It has been over a year and I am still waiting for that invite to show up in my inbox.
Hey Osama: If you have any free invites sitting around in your inbox, please send them over.

I did, but then I’ve forgotten my scrybe account details and didnt really bother asking for a fix. Maybe I’m not their target market, or just too lazy.
For me, Windows Calendar on Vista gets me going much faster.
Anyone else using this actively should be able to send you something.

i’m scratching my head here. Valley money is beginning to dry up and course correction at this juncture seems risky. Anything that is close to picking up a fight with the big gorilla (ie google) is ….bold, they better be ready for stormy weather.
The bigger the challenge, the bigger the rewards. I wish them the best of luck!

I finally got thier invite after a year. Google calender has now firmly taken over as the market leader. What good is a product if no one is allowed to use it? They should have utilized the hype when they had it (those fancy reviews from Cnet etc) and released their product. Sad

I’m actually looking for an invite to Scrybe. Ahmad, are you able to hook me up with an invite? Or anyone else who has commented here?
Thanks!
