Here’s something pretty useful.
One member of our community has recently spent some time opening this wateen router, going over technical specs and demystifying WiMax protocol specs to understand whats wrong with Wateen’s service.
Apparently he’s figured out why the connection keeps dropping and hacked the router to bypass the issue – he was claiming that he went from dialup speeds one day to 60-100kB/s the next.
Trouble is, he’s a shy person, and didnt want to write a post for the G&W readers who so desperately want a solution.
Humbug, I say!
Lets all put some pressure on this gentlemen to come forth with a solution – Do you want to get out of Wateen nightmares, fix your router, and get into internet bliss again? If so, sound off in the comments to tell this mystery man just HOW MUCH you need that and how grateful you’ll be if he gives us this secret sauce.

Ok, Osama has dragged me into writing something. These are just my findings of research I did for my connection. I hope this helps someone.
Log into your Wimax router. Default IP Address is 192.168.15.1. Default user is router and default password is router. Go to status section and there go to Network Statistics Section. Note down two values RSSI and CINR. RSSI will be a negative value. It has to be below -85 dB and CINR has to be below 8 dB. If this isn’t the case move you router to some other place and test again.
Point to note is Wimax is MIMO technology. This means CINR (Carrier to interference plus Noise Ratio) can be due to a co channel. This implies that just rotating the router can also help. My router is facing North-East.

So far my browsing has been pretty good – no need for reloads – however its also 3 am. that said, I had a quick look at my stats and i have the following values:

CINR = 11 db
.
I wonder what it means, perhaps I’ve given co ordinates of my location….bah.

just to add to the above – i hadn’t moved my device over the last few hours and i couldn’t browse the internet until about 20 minutes ago – i’m not so sure how those values help….anyway.

WRONG!!
The critical part of the information provided by Mystery Man is WRONG!
He said, “Note down two values RSSI and CINR. RSSI will be a negative value. It has to be below -85 dB and CINR has to be below 8 dB.”
RSSI of -85 dBm an OK value, but virtually and according to Wateen infrastructure is should be -80 dBm.
-60 dBm to -70 dBm is quite healthy value, and -40 dBm is something hard to achieve with Wateen.
(I am sure most of the people know, but let me mention that closer to zero value of RSSI, the better it is)
Now come to CINR, CINR is Carrier to Interference + Noise Ratio, it is same as SNR in traditional DSL system.
Mystery Man said “CINR has to be below 8 dB.”, which is wrong.
For Wateen, CNIR has to be ABOVE 15 dB. For CNIR, higher is better. If you have 20-25 dB, you should be happy at it. And for lower than 10 dB or 8dB (unlike what Mystery Man said) performance will be poor.
I hope this will pretty much help people trying to get their device in healthy signal environment.
This is coming from an Electrical Engineer, specialized in Electronics and Communication.

I agree with Engr. Waqas Arshad, however iam not sure abt the recomended values. But do wish to add that changing antenna positions also helps, try different configurations for example, raise one side up vertically the other lowered vertically, or one pointing up ther other pointing forward, or one pointing forward and the pointing backwards, try other combinations also. Dont be surprised by the results. This is how telecom is.

Please , Tell me one thing.
I have wateen indoor device that worked pretty better for weeks. Then one day it went on searching signals and did not capture any signals for 3 days.
I called the Helpline. They sent a person. And that person attached My device with his LAPTOP. And again the Wateen was working fine.
I want to know Why it happens?
What the wateen Person does
And Can we put Indooe device on our Roof and get a long LAN cable to PC for better signals instead of Using an outdoor device???

Dear … there is nothing wrong with the wateen service also there is nothing to do in the wateen device… the wrong is with the users(sorry to say) … i m not wateen boy but as i m using wateen service and i m geting good speed its depend on the person how can he manage… if your computer is p1 and ram is 64 the the speed will go the bottom…
Example: install new windows (only windows) and now attach the wateen device with the computer off the updates of the windows … and now try to open the Internet Explorer… just you click and you can see the IE is opend now brows the sites you can see the sites are opening so quick… now install in computer MS Office, msn Messenger, yahoo messenger, an anti vires, also some of other programs,so now what you need to do remove the wateen device from your pc and restart your computer and now try to open Internet Explorer … you can see clearly with out internet explorer taking 5 to 7 sec to open… so its all the computer problems there is nothing wrong with wateen and other …

Rabia Mirza …. if you need to use wifi router with wateen device then you have to do one simple step…just off the DHCP of your wifi router then you can use the wateen service using ur wifi router… because DHCP is available in the Wateen device so there is no need for another DHCP.

I am using wateen for like one and a half year now and the service has been good since the summer of last year. I have hardly faced an issue. my oval shaped device shows two signal bars and everything works perfect. according to the coordinates of my place i am out of coverage. but from what I have seen is that all the indoor-outdoor stuff is crap. As long as you are getting two signal bars it works perfect. no problem with the browsing or the streaming it’s hard to see why people complain or get fussy……i am so glad that my wireless service works well and i am out of the dsl/ptcl/link dot net mess. my friends have been swifting to wateen becuase of me and they are all satisfied …… out of a total of 30 there is only one guy who got issues and those issues are only till i get to his place. so it’s really the user issue most of the time. but yeah the wateen complaint handlers are shit people……some body wanted to know about what they do with their laptops when the device keeps on searching—–they simply update the software of the device—it’s either upgraded or down graded according to the situation.

you did not need to put the 192.168.15.1 in the browser … so you need to just put in the browser 10.16.6.16 or you can type only with out www or http just (internet.wateen.net) the login page should opend and then you need to put your login id which provided to you by wateen.

@lorddawg, maybe you have the motorola router, its password is ‘motorola’ by default i dont know if wateen changes the default password before supplying it to customers.

I got the new CPEo450 outdoor unit installed 4-5 days back. The Wateen ppl had some pretty hard time locating signals at my place and finally settled for only 1-2 fluctuating signals they got. Later I tried browsing but it was not much good for a 1MB connection so took up matters in my own hands and did a survey for signals on my roof with the device. I got the same results as wateen staff but surprisingly when I tilted the device at 90 degree i.e. its orientation from vertical to horizontal, it gave full 5 signals. so now i have mounted it in horizontal plane well covered under a big shade to avoid water entering in the drain holes of the device and getting pretty perfect service. Turbo download speed, RSSI -56dBm, CNIR 27dB at the moment.:)

whole thing is , i paid 2650 rupees for 1mb unlimted and they never gave me shit , they ate away my money just like so many other people’s. i registered and paid; the representative said k the outdoor would be available to me in TWO DAYS. week passed , two weeks passed , no shithole came to me with a goddamn outdoor. I called the damn customer care (customer care , my ass!!) like 30 to 40 times , visited the business centre like 20 times and NO response. then im finally fed up and i go to their head office (beside origa centre) and i tell them to gve me my money back and keep their stupid indoor modem , the said “oh noooo , FUCKIN cAnt DOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SIRRRRRRRR!! , cuz we have fukin crazy moronic paranoid clever muther fuckers , and we made u pass the month away so that we could fuckin claim that we dont return money after a fuckin month” so thats it. numerous wateen shitheads have come to my doorstep askin for the indoor and i have told them to fuck off ,and im gna continue doing so until the return my money

it should be regitered on mr. abdul saboor’s name. do check pl , its bin like 3 months since i stopped using wateen (not like i ever used it properly) adres shud be lahore cantt cavalry.
and heres the detailed thing :-
i registered on something like 6th nov. i was told i would receive outdoor on 8th nov. (pl note that i initially ordered usb , but was told by rp tht i would need outdoor and i registered and paid for 1mb unlimited outdoor (phone and net bundle) payment i made was RS.2670 )
then , i waited , and i waited ,and i waited , and i called care , called , called , called ,called , visited centre ,centre , centre , centre , centre …………… on and on , on and on ………..
on something like 25th of november , i put my ondoor device (i had kept the usb as security (THANKGOD!!!!) but thn exchnged it for blade modem as instructed by care on my 31st call to them) on my cieling fan, where it gave me one signal , i logged in , started using , estimated load time for google was around 40 seconds (wow , some broadband!!) and max dl speed i got around non peek hours was 45kbps.
orite , next thing , i got fed up , i went there asked for return of money , they told me , no sir , u hav used it for a long time …. (45kbps for around 15 days , i dont remember , but u can confirm it from ur system) i told them okay , atleast reduce the 15 day negative so that i hav to load half the amount …………. theyre like , no sir … u have to load full 1670 rupees in order to use … we will adjust AFTER u have loaded ( and then i quit!! i couldnt just believe that the people who deceived me , ate away 2670 rupees + more in useless calls and numerous journeys to sales , business centr and head office).
now ok , sir , lets say that wateen claims that i used FULL SPEED (which i did NOT) , they know that it was for 15 days (system doesn lie , now does it ??

some of my friends had limited connection. they stoped using wateen bacause there was no indicator of how much data had been used and they unintentionally used beyond limits , resulting in overwhelming payable amounts , i suggest wateen create some notification and CONFIRMATION system that tells limited users that their volume limit is about to be reached , and when they are done with the limit , it should CONFIRM that they are now overusing and will be charged x amount per x GBs of data download
one more thing , i am a customer of both the other firms in the business group (namely warid telecom and bank alfalah) and i am satisfied with both , but WHAT IS WITH WATEEN??
and another thing sir , the manager of the franchise where mr. representative (his name is Azeem) came from (franchise is in iqbal town , near moon market) is mr. Ashir , he is a nice guy who will create MANY MORE unsatisfied customers for wateen

I have been using wateen for more than two years now, there were issues in the beginning but seems to work pretty well now.
I think the issues people are reporting depend on location. Just be sure that you are in coverage area and wateen rocks!!
If you are using on ground floor or are not in good coverage area then ask them for an external device.

it maybe dear brother , that the signals get worse when u move ur modem/usb whatever u have (no wonder , its wateen right?? xD) try keeping the location the same as when u connect to ur desktop.
@Hamza , for starters , chk if yateem has DECENT coverage in your area , then try putting ur modem in a location where most signal bars are active. if that doesnt work , take ur modem , throw it in wateen head office CEO’s face , and tell him to give ur money back and go for other net connection. if u really want wireless get ptcl evo.

most of the people complaining here are only the ones who face severe issues.
There are hunderds of thousands of wateen users who are using without any problem. compare the count of the complaints here with such a huge user base.
i would say wateen is best among wimax service providers

I was using Micronet broad band for last 4 years. They had awesome internet service. Recently I had to shift to Rawalpindi, and here I didn’t have PTCL phone connection. So I had to buy wireless Wateen connection, UNLUCKILY.
Wateen is the worst internet service available in Pakistan. They have the worst customer support. They will never actually solve ur problem and will keep bullshitting you. I have unlimited connection, but when I try to download some thing from torrent, the maximum speed I get is 20 kbps. I ll soon be quiting this nightmare service. And will recommend all you to quit using this fu**ing Wateen service.
Oh, And hats off to mystery man. You were of no help either.
