  • I;ve been usin g Wateen 1mb/ 4 gb prepaid package for 3 months now. performing is pretty good. I get about 110-115 kbps during downloads. However, I would prefer an unlimited ptcl package for the same price, especially after the launch of ptcl smart(digital TV service). I am in an area where ptcl dsl is not available, therefore had to opt for wateen! My advice is get an unlimited package from another service provider coz I really have to be careful of not expending my 4 gb quota while video streaming and downloading massive files. THEY R FAR TOO EXPENSIVE THAN THE COMPETITION AND ONLY GOOD FOR THOSE WHO R EITHER DESPERATE OR DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO A BETTER SERVICE PROVIDER IN THEIR AREA!

    I think their acounting sucks. I had the same prolem with my WiMax connection at work. One day it showed I had half a gig of downloads. The next day I had gone over to 4 gig limit. What was funny was my connection was DOWN THE WHOLE TIME so there was NO POSSIBILITY of that happening…

    They also tell youwhen you are done you must logout or else you could get charged extra? First of all, why? If I am not using the connection and just happen to be logged in, why should my meter be running? Second, how can I logout when most of the time it is the electricity that goes away and i don’t get a chance. Third, it logs me out automatically after 5 minutes of inactivity anyways…

  • And to add to Nota’s comments if you go over your limit that is it you have to wait till you billing cycle starts. You have to keep paying Rs 35/100mb.

    It happened to me the first billing cycle. I have a 10GB pacakge and on the 20th day or so. I couldn’t use my net I called them and they said because I went over limit. I always watch my download. I know I download a lot but I watch it and guess what I was downloading an ISO of 3.5GB using a download manager. After 23 hours and 2.7GB my limit supposidly was reached and the account locked. Took me sometime to figure out pay and re-instate my account.

    The download was no longer valid I had to restart the download and keeping in mind I am paying Rs 35/100mb for next week I couldn’t. You cannot just recharge your account, you have to wait for the billing cycle?????????. DOES THAT SUCK OR WHAT?

    i kept up wid there non-sence for like 6 months but not anymore now…

    first day i get wateen it dosnt work till after a week thus i get a 0 in school assignment

    2nd in febuary and march i experience dam slow bronzing speeds coz of the optical fibre while no other isp was affected as much as wateen was…

    on april i get this big fat ass bill which said i hav to pay 12000 =x i friggn blew my head off coz we payed advance 18000 already and it claimed i downloaded more tan 20 gig althhough i didnt coz i was in my limits…the question is how do i knw…i installed du meter to keep track of my bandwidth from the start so in the end i had to pay the bill coz of some mumbo jumbo

    a month later i figure out my account was hacked and it was being used by someone else and this problem didn’t get solved till like 2 months my god damn password kept on changing when ever i needed to login and then i had to call the boring helpline with that ridiculous song going on EVERYDAY ATLEAST 6 TIMES IN THE DAY coz tat other guy was using my account n somehow he use to reset n change my password n when i tell another wateen representive he says its impossible he needs ur nic no and yap yap yap in the end i was gona refund the product coz the problem wasnt getting solved and then they showed logging against the mac address and it totaly proved someone else was using my account n the solution they picked up was to convert me to prepaid

    ok now i get converted and u knw what the new problem is i logged in and i had 12500 balance and when the next day i login wat do u knw ZERO BALANCE ;@

    now im asking whr that balance went n they say we r sry sir n crap crap crap so in the end i suffered a tremendous loss n now im gona break the cpe proberly smash it coz thrs no way im gonna return it (stay tune for my utube video link in which i smash tat tiny piece of trash into scrap)…

  • Hmmm.. So it does log you out. And Guy, I don’t know why it happened with you. I too have been using Wateen for quite a good time but I just had inaccessibility problems and they don’t last anymore. Seriously! I see an immense improvement in Wateen’s service and compared to its previous services, it is completely unbelievable.
    I have also heard some good and bad news about Mobilink. But i haven’t used it.
    May be the Wimax service is in its early stages in pakistan, and its gradually improving. Probably thats the reason for its bad services but what you say… THAT IS STRANGE! I’ll try to figure it out and let you know.

    Just want to clarify I have had almost no problems with the service since the paid period started. Again I am talking cable here in DHA Lahore (Net service was horrible and unusable till Feb 29, the testing period, but magically it all got fixed March 01 when pay period started. Was poor service intentional then during testing phase?) I have had maybe one or two brief outages since. Only problem now I have with is billing. Has their customer service improved? My WiMax experience so far does not give me much confidence. 365 in the 111-365-111 probably means the days in the year you will have interruptions…

  • I think one of my last posts did not make it through. It went something like this:
    I just got my first bill (for March through June) and it is for over Rs.11,000. My package (Evergreen Chrome?) was for Rs. 999 (850 + 149 for modem rent) plus phone calls. My bill informs me I have been averaging some 4 GB downloads over my 2 GB limit which is just not possible. Even assuming it was true, my contracts states Rs. 200 per GB I go over but my bill states Rs 2050 for the 4 GB extra, which comes to around Rs. 500 per GB…

    They specialize in sending false bills (in my case 15k Rs) and then stand firm to say, “Yes, this bill is yours!”

  • Ok, my regular ranting folks. I have to appreciate what Wateen is doing. They are making an effort to improve their CS. I sent them an email about SelfCare Portal (unable to login). I got a professional email response. Than a phone call resolving the issue. Bravo Wateen! Keep it up we will be very proud of you…

    BUT…. (here he goes again dogging)
    I sent an email with disappointment on another subject. Here is the email I sent to Wateen:

    Dear Wateen CS,

    First of all congratulations on improving your CS and adding more professional aptitude and response towards uses issues. I am impressed by the latest resolution of the issue I had.

    However, after logging in to the Dashboard (much better than prepaid portal, congrats!). I am disappointed in Wateen’s honesty about charging customers. Here is my beef:
    For last 3 billing cycles i did not even go over 2GB out of my 10GB limit. I did not get any credit or benefit of that. But My first billing cycle when my limit was reached Wateen started charging my instantly without any warning

    Please do not think that I am a regular bitching type that always complain about things. Its because of us “bitcher” raising these issue you get a chance to improve your service.

    I suggest that either you provide Unlimited Downloads, with a warning of using excess like 20-50GB in a billing cycle. Or at least provide roll-over for unused cap.

    Looking forward to a positive response. Thank you so much.

    For those who are paying me to write these things please not this down, I want a bigger paycheck this time…

    It’s me again. Just to let you guys know. Wateen has blocked UDP 5060 – 5070. These are used for VOiP, SIP etc.

    I have a device to make calls free of charge and I was only able to use it for a month or so then in August, September last year it stopped working. I spent so many hours with their Customer Support and did everything. I had my suspicions that it was Wateen blocking it, but I never confirmed it. Since some of wateen’s “Loyal Customer” say I am here to bad mouth Wateen only.

    It is confirmed that Wateen has blocked these ports forcing us to use there telephony service for international calls as well.

  • i dont know guys if this forum or post is helpfull. im a corporate and complimentry user of wateen way before they launched their service for public. and my experience…. they were enough good in start but after they launch their services. they became just a trash. first they fool you with their rates and installation cost. and when we talk about their services.. im not sure why ppl going crazy about them. a good internet means good service. you can view pages on any dialup but when we talk about downloading we want something better and reliable. and what wateen giving us ???? you start downloading a 100 mb file and this fuckin wateen keep reconnect round about twice in an hour.
    i would not recoment any one to use wateen. infact im using ptcl dsl+tv thats working fine in my home (4 pc network) and statisfactory to every one. dont think its a marketing of ptcl but im really pissed on wateen guys. they call them self professionals. and what an idiot guys when they come to resolve your issues they keep calling one and another to know how to fix this error n blah blah blah. never ever dare to use this crap.

  • Here is an update about my experience with Wateen:
    I dinally received my first bill after SEVEN months — now that’s efficient — and though it for for the first three months of service, it was a whopping Rs. 11k instead of the Rs. 3k I was expecting (I find it amusing that like @FSD, every one I talked to got almost the same Rs 10K+ bill, even my uncle who does NO browsing and uses it only for email and maybe gets no more than one message per day). The reason given was I had gone over my 2 GB limit each month by about 4GB every month. Now this was curious as I really don’t use the net that much and don’t do much downloading so going over the 2GB limit is close to impossible for me. So I called them up and stated the same but they insisted I had done so. I there was no way I was going believe that, nor was I going to pay that amount. But of course they would not listen so I told them on the phone and email to cut my connection for they were not doing to get anything more than Rs.999 that I signed up for. But they did not do so.

    What to me is an admission of their over-billing is the fact that from then on they started billing everyone just the flat line rent (Rs.999) but still continued to insist I pay the over-billed amount for the first three months. I simply refused asking them to fix the amount for the first three months as well. But like true professionals, they refused to do it.

    After about 10 months of this someone finally came to my house collect the bill. I once again asked them to give me the right bill (~Rs.10,000 by now) and after a phone call to head office they agreed and said I could settle for Rs.10,000. But I told them that I had made some phone calls and wanted to pay for those calls as well over the Rs.10,000 (BTW: the phone line worked for only about 3 months and that only sporadically AND when it did, it was useless as most people could not dial in as my phone number was not recognized by their exchanges). I was told someone would be in the next day with the updated amount.

    I waited but no one showed up. Instead I got a call the following day that there would be an interruption in my service as they were “switching me to pre-pay” (“What stup!d b@st@rds” I thought) and they did. BTW they also changed my user ID and password but did not tell me what it was :) Of course no one has come by since then and the only time I heard from them was another bill (by now over Rs 17,000). Of course I am NOT going to pay it. Not even the Rs 10,000+ I had agreed as I am peaved about them switching me to pre-pay without my permission. Their cablebox still still blinking atop my desk uselessly and I have switched to another ISP….

    (I think I am going to use that money to go for Smart service from PTCL. Anyone besides

    I suggest if you have technical or billing problems and find no resolution, send a email to PTA. PTA is really going after quality from these carriers. I assume in 3/4 months everybody will have multiple choice between Augere, LDN, Witribe, PTCL and the whipping boy -Wateen.
    By the way does world call have a EVDO, likewise try GO-CDMA EVDO, nothing wrong in trying. After all amongst all players, somebody will be ‘least-worst’.

    Jokes aside your comments are being actively read by management at LDN, Witribe and Augere! (a) I think PTCL’s present CEO doesn’t really care about whether or not you like the service. So no need crying about it, if u dislike it, shut it down, give them a written cancellation and tell them come and pick up the modem.
    (b) Wateen seems to have a major major problem, as with the number of complaints they should be really working hard, but I think they do have a major management issue!

    So Witribe, Agere and LDN, time for you to show results and take on the market! Goodluck

  • I also heard that Mobilink already started WiMax in Lahore or Karachi, something like that.

    I am not complaining about Wateen any more even when their customer service calls me 4-5 days after the problem is reported. I just tell them there is no need for their call. I have learned to be patient and accept the fact that I am stuck with it.

    If you have PTCL land line go for it. I am close to a rural area where PTCL don’t care about new connections already I have made my application almost 4 months ago and have yet to receive any call (on my cell) for the service.

    You know most of the times it swings both ways, if “Wateen User” (not sure whom is referred) is a paid blogger by “other” services. Then you could be, a possiblity, a paid blogger by wateen as well. Anyways, I am not accusing no one here, since its not confirmed who is who.

    Mobilink, LinkdotNet etc have no competition with Wateen, wateen is offering WiMax which none of the other companies are offering, on a large scale, that I know of. But anyways just to give you another one of my countless “great” experiences (and I can forward you the actual emails as well), what do you call a URGENT problem posted on March-18-2009 gets a response on March-22-2009. And get this the call is to confirm if I am still having the problem or has it be resolved. To me this statement says: Lazy, Incompetent, Unaware, Lack-of-Interest.

    But, none the less, I am holding my peace. Wateen is doing what it can and I have no other alternative right now.

    i m using wateen since last September 2008.
    at that time they have some issues like page time out (just for few second) at that time u need to refresh ur page and its works fine..
    And i have prepaid account so no billiling problem..now after upgrading of their services since feb i m getting good speed countineusly…no disconnectivitiy..
    and my average rate is 45Kilo byts per second.

    PTCL offers good packages..but they have horrible support and horrible biling problems..

    like one of my frnd was v.satisfied with PTCL Service but now this month they got PTCL bill of 8000 Rupees..incluing Audio confercing bill 4000 rs… i know he dont use Audio confercing facility and he never turned it on..
    now he is like banging his head like a mad man..
    no doubt he is getting good DSL Service..now he finally decided he is not gonna pay the bill …

    And another my friend is using PTCL DSL speed just 10 to 5 Kilo bytes per second.. now u can imagine..he complained a lot..after 10 days he cancelled the DSL but still got the bill of DSL 1200 Rupees + Tax.. so he feel like where shud i go..

    No Doubt Wateen is improving there services ..
    wateen is prepaid means whenever u feel service is not good..dont Recharge ur account..

    i got one prob ..when my limit goes off then i recharge my account with 100 Rs Card.
    they are providing 100Mb Againt 25 Rupeess..
    it means i bought 400 MB Space. but its just not like That yup i just used hardly 50Mb and my accounts goes deactivated i called them.. they give me ticket and after one day they said u consumed 400 Mb i said no..i consumed 50 Mb even Portal is showing i consumed 50Mb and i have some software for net usage they shows me aprox 50Mb and its true i did nothing.. just did chat and just browsing .

    Well After dat i figured it out..wts wrong with there system. and i find out some bugs in their system and i tried some tricks and yup it worked. mosly i use net for downloading Movies and online gaming like WAR CRAT Frozen THRONE.
    i have 5gb 512K package.
    And now i waits when my limit is going off. when my limits reach to 4.8GB .. i do some tricks after dat i start my lots of movies torrents and when they torrents starts
    i just need to take care of one thing.. :)
    yes i dont shut down my system.. i have heavy ups 5 Hours Backup so. i countineously dowload movies from hour an hour day to day..untill watneen system forcefully expires my session yup i m in my office my system is On since 4 days. just 2 movies remaing to download

  • I was really thinking to opt for Wateen but after going through mostly adverse reviews by various users I am now confused.

    Could some one advise how wateen is working at I I Chundrigar road. What is the downloading speed of wateen. Is is fast, how You tube videos function is it smooth or buffrrringgs hinder the video segment. Shall appreciate users feed back. keeping in mind Wi-tribe is alraedy in the field using WiMax and most probably the same sleak Motorola device.

  • i have a wateen juiptar and it is absouletly working fine.i have a 1mb unlimted download account.and i have never faced a problem with it.i get about 4 to5 signals on myjuiptar and a download speed of around 1000kb to 1300kb.but a slow upload speed.your upload speed can be incresed by callin their helpline or chat on wateens sie:wateen.com with a wateen repersantive and you are done because wateen has decraesed your upload speed because most of the people dont upload.
