MetaCarta is AllVoices but with professional news
A Cambridge, Mass. company has taken part of what made AllVoices interesting and made their work much simpler.
MetaCarta aggregates news stores from over 1400 sources and also indexes them on a global map. You could use this in a number of ways: You could look around the globe to see where all the news is focused on at any particular point in time (macroview) and then zoom deep into a specific local for news from there; You could search for news by location; or just have fun tying the story with the place and saying “Oh I didnt know that was there!”
I think it could become an interesting news search site for a particular type of story – the one where you hear something great just happened in Cambridge but cant pinpoint.
AllVoices – which we reviewed earlier – differs from this in that it also has a citizen journalism focus on it.
What type of news is more useful for you with a map – professional news or news from bloggers?
