I believe the question is about the nature of monetizing your blog. You could take the path of Signal vs Noise (37signals) and become a "chef". That means talking about your "specialty" your "niche". I can see you already have Google Ads and Amazon referrals so you have some basic mechanism setup for monetization and theoretically, its not entirely free. As a matter-of-fact, I haven't come across a "free" popular blog in a very long time scobleizer.com? advertises his own book. SvN? Job board and advertise their blog. Joelonsoftware?
