hey every body lets cool down a little bit, we all love this site thats why we take time out of our lives to read/comment write for it. recently there has been a slight increase in criticism in posts, which at times undermine the great initiatives of startup inside going on in parallel, I really appreciate the fact that a lot of you come to comment when there is a post and questions asked and the fact that not one reader of ours will let us degrade in quality of the content of this site, they will hold us to it. But i would also request all of our readers that before holding us to every thing for a moment they should think that it is still voluntary effort we need to work together to take it forward even in this post Osama was up at 1:45 am probably doing his own work but took time to write down this post, most of our readers are startups they would understand the 26 hour tasks that have to be done in 24 hours, so instead of being blunt in our criticism lets try to be constructive in our communication on both sides so we keep this community together,
And thanks for your comments

"we’re in the business of building digital communities"

Can you please list a few that you have built so far?

"We have 9 analytics engines running on G&w."

I guess that's why the site is slow to load.

By the way, this post loads as follows (both in IE and FF)

I second Osama on this :)

Zeeshan, you actually sounded like Osama was a kid. Btw, in case you didn't notice when greenwhite's loading it does send stats to analytics so i am sure Osama knows about it - just that you didn't notice the site loading.

Osama, btw i feel there is something wrong with the stats. Not quite sure, but a sudden spike in a couple of posts - may be there are reasons. Also the site hasn't changed much on alexa (given that it's not really accurate) relative to the stats shown.

Again I am no expert ... just my thoughts :)

Lol touchy touchy Zeeshan.

Chill out.

Ofcourse, there are more diplomatic ways of highlighting statcounter than starting with "Do you know what a community is Osama?" or "I'm surprised you dont even know where your traffic is coming from - thats key to your success"

Given that you obviously know a lot more about community management than me, I'd invite you to start your own version of G&W somewhere - show me how its done. Please.

Do you know what is a community Osama? Do you believe that the 412 people who visited this thread know about analytics as well as you do? I personally just wanted to highlight statcounter.com. This project was worked on for 4 years by one guy and the company has done great.

If our comments make you look bad. You could have just said something like ... "Duhhh! I know analytics like you wouldn't believe. But thanks for sharing".

But you would rather publicly declare that we are "patronizing" you.

It is a good thing that you are "in the business of building digital communities".

You are doing a swell job.

Bye.

Thanks Nash,

Well if its generally directed to me - shoot me an email because then I could prioritize it.

Comments would be whatever is more helpful for the community.

Apologies for sounding patronizing. The only reason why I would advise you is because I care enough about this site that I take my time out to do so. But if you're sensitive about public criticism, I'll shoot off a personal email next time.

Guys, we're in the business of building digital communities did you really consider that I didn't know about analytics?

We have 9 analytics engines running on G&w. Both of the ones you mentioned are grossly inaccurate.

One thing about analytics - if you're highlighted in an aggregator, e.g. Shared Google Reader or Paul Graham's list it doesn't show up on analytics - didnt know that did you?

I appreciate the support but try to ensure that it doesn't sound like you're patronizing us. Email me if you've got advice like this no need to put it up on public display always.

My stats are NO where even close to 2745 visits in a day, let alone 45 minutes. As Nash said Google Analytics is really great. If you are looking for real-time stats, statcounter.com is what I use. Its great and free!

Its cool to see PakTranslations getting traffic but I'm surprised you can't tell where the traffic is coming from. Don't you have traffic analysis set up? Because the question you're asking is very basic to your success ie: who is sending me traffic and how can I make it happen again. I strongly recommend that you take a look at google.com/analytics, it allows you to isolate traffic down to every single page (such as this one) and it will tell you where all the traffic came from (whether internal or external) and where did they go next, which links they clicked on this page, how long they stayed, how many people left after coming here, how many people stayed. Analytics is essential for tweaking the site according to user behavior.

Good luck!
