We’re looking for Sponsors for new hosting
Ugh. Green & White has been going down intermittently from too much memory or processor usage for two days now.
It’s clear that our traffic has outgrown the capacity of the host to handle.
To keep G&W running, we’ll have to move to dedicated hosting now – we are looking at either Rackspace Managed Hosting or Media Temple Grid Hosting to handle the load and spikes.
But for that, we need some companies to agree to sponsor 6-months of hosting.
Any company interested in supporting the largest and most influential IT community in the country – in exchange for prime ad space and our prayers? Contact me at osama@greenwhite.org
Green & White must live on!!

Maybe you can try your hand at optimizing wordpress performance for your site? Analyze the plugins/contents that are taking the biggest chunk of your processor & memory, and try reducing that time… this will at least help you keep running until you find sponsors.

Good idea Tayyab,
This is another problem with the host though – they have two levels of cache but they are not optimized for wordpress so things start crashing if we put that on.

WP has its built-in cache to handle most of the sql stuff. As recommended above, check your plugins and optimize them. I am involved with number of high traffic WP sites and they don’t demand too much resources.
If you can let me know the exact requirment (bandwidth, space, load sharing etc), I may help you with this.

Hey, why don’t you create an auction on Lootmaar for people to bid on your sponsorship offer.
We will waive the commission for whatever you raise.

That would be an interesting thing to do – hosting is a somewhat simpler product for that though. Let’s see if we can come up with some better products to auction off through LM.

I think a sponsorship deal would be a good thing to start with. The idea is that potential sponsors should be able to bid on specific sponsorship offers. The highest bidder gets prime placement on your website.
We can float the sponsorship auction on relevant groups (e.g. Pasha) and the resulting bids can also give you a sense of what people are willing to pay for.

Adnan – thats a great idea – I really like the idea of promoting local concepts in this creative way.
Will keep an eye on it

Osama, may I propose you to check out Server4Sale as a viable (and very Pakistani) alternative to Rackspace and MT, for your dedicated server hosting needs?
While our servers are based in the USA, our support center and core operations are based here in Karachi. I would keep it brief here and contact you through email. In the meantime, do check out the website.
On a personal note, I hope that you, sooner than later, find a sponsor for RS/MT or you work out a deal with Server4Sale, coz G&W … must live on!

Again you need a better wordpress programmer…
