PASHA has been evolving into a more formal platform for support for the industry this year, and two of the important decisions made were that the organization would have a full-time office, and that the organization would have a President on the payroll.
The decision had been under substantial discussion for some time but I suppose it makes sense for them – with Green & White I know the tax of working on something primarily by volunteering for it. As Green & White has grown, so have peoples’ expectations on the type of content on it, and sometimes that quality and consistency is not possible without a dedicated team of fact-checkers and news-hunters on the payroll.
I suppose the same is true for PASHA, who have felt that a fulltime dedicated president would be able to better serve its growing expectations.
Its good to know that Jehan Ara has agreed to take up that role – she has shown unrelenting passion for improving this industry with the same role in the past, and even outside it this past year. So its good to see this passion find its rightful place.
So, now we have a PASHA President with a blog - if that doesn’t demonstrate the death of old-media what else can?

Congrats!
I still remember P@SHA ICT Awards 2006 (Student Catergory), when i first interacted with Madam Jehan Ara and find her very cooperative, her tips really helped me at that time.
Her passion will surely help the industry here in Pakistan. President with a blog, freedom of speech

My best wishes to an able and worthy president. I am sure under her leadership and new role PASHA will develop from strength to strength.
I extend my hand of support and co-operation to Jehan Ara many times. Especially in opening up more opportunities for the sector. Having strong connections base in UK Trade and Development as well as Malaysian Based World Islamic Economic Foundation I am sure I can be of great help to PASHA.
I look forward to meeting up with th new president very soon.

I appreciate the kind words and hope to live up to everyone’s expectations. Although I am extremely thrilled at taking up this position in a more formal role, I do not underestimate the enormity of the task and will look to everyone in the sector for support, ideas and constructive criticism. Joining hands to accomplish our overall objectives, is the way to go.
Thanks for your offer of support Dr. Butt. I shall certainly look you up when I am in Lahore – which should be soon after I take offer officially on January 1.

Best of luck Miss Jehan Ara. Go enjoy the designation and payroll too. lolz
I would add to that that there are too many pits in this industry. Matching one organization to sectorize the market is not always a GOOD case.BUT matching a GREAT PERSON with a GREAT Organization is always a GOOD Case.
Cheers

I hope she will really take our industry forward.
Good luck

The President of Iran has a popular blog (Ahmadinejad.ir), which hasn’t put a dent into global media coverage of either him, or Iran, so why see a popular blog (jehanara.wordpress.com) from a president in Pakistan as the death of old media?
Plus ca change, plus ca meme, to paraphrase another popular piece of writing. Old media is very much here to stay, but expect increasingly aware people to take their daily dose with heftier pinches of salt.

Great. So now PASHA is paying high salaries, or is it a “voluntary” position?

Kashif, why would assume they are high salaries?
Basically the president will be the only person from the management committee on the payroll, as compensation for doing that fulltime.
