Jehan Ara becomes full-time President of PASHA from Jan 1, 2008

PASHA has been evolving into a more formal platform for support for the industry this year, and two of the important decisions made were that the organization would have a full-time office, and that the organization would have a President on the payroll.

The decision had been under substantial discussion for some time but I suppose it makes sense for them – with Green & White I know the tax of working on something primarily by volunteering for it. As Green & White has grown, so have peoples’ expectations on the type of content on it, and sometimes that quality and consistency is not possible without a dedicated team of fact-checkers and news-hunters on the payroll.

I suppose the same is true for PASHA, who have felt that a fulltime dedicated president would be able to better serve its growing expectations.

Its good to know that Jehan Ara has agreed to take up that role – she has shown unrelenting passion for improving this industry with the same role in the past, and even outside it this past year. So its good to see this passion find its rightful place.

So, now we have a PASHA President with a blog – if that doesn’t demonstrate the death of old-media what else can?

  • Congrats!

I still remember P@SHA ICT Awards 2006 (Student Catergory), when i first interacted with Madam Jehan Ara and find her very cooperative, her tips really helped me at that time.

Her passion will surely help the industry here in Pakistan. President with a blog, freedom of speech :)

  • My best wishes to an able and worthy president. I am sure under her leadership and new role PASHA will develop from strength to strength.

I extend my hand of support and co-operation to Jehan Ara many times. Especially in opening up more opportunities for the sector. Having strong connections base in UK Trade and Development as well as Malaysian Based World Islamic Economic Foundation I am sure I can be of great help to PASHA.

I look forward to meeting up with th new president very soon.

    Dr Masood Butt
    Chief Executive
    ISEI Ltd
    042 753 2213

  • I appreciate the kind words and hope to live up to everyone’s expectations. Although I am extremely thrilled at taking up this position in a more formal role, I do not underestimate the enormity of the task and will look to everyone in the sector for support, ideas and constructive criticism. Joining hands to accomplish our overall objectives, is the way to go.

Thanks for your offer of support Dr. Butt. I shall certainly look you up when I am in Lahore – which should be soon after I take offer officially on January 1.

  • Best of luck Miss Jehan Ara. Go enjoy the designation and payroll too. lolz

I would add to that that there are too many pits in this industry. Matching one organization to sectorize the market is not always a GOOD case.BUT matching a GREAT PERSON with a GREAT Organization is always a GOOD Case.

  • Congrats, that is really a well deserved position. I know she is the perfect person for the job.
I hope she will really take our industry forward.
    Good luck

  • The President of Iran has a popular blog (, which hasn’t put a dent into global media coverage of either him, or Iran, so why see a popular blog ( from a president in Pakistan as the death of old media?

Plus ca change, plus ca meme, to paraphrase another popular piece of writing. Old media is very much here to stay, but expect increasingly aware people to take their daily dose with heftier pinches of salt.

  • Great. So now PASHA is paying high salaries, or is it a “voluntary” position?

  • Kashif, why would assume they are high salaries?

Basically the president will be the only person from the management committee on the payroll, as compensation for doing that fulltime.

  • Congratulations J to be again as P@sha head and also Happy New Year.

First we had Angry Imran which brought smiles and some short lived fun for us during the election campaign. Then came Gullu Butt following the incident of Model Town Lahore, which stayed on top of charts (Pakistan play store) for quite some while. Also Gullu Butt made an update with having the famous “Aam Khaiyga” quote form Aamir Liaqat in which a character resembling Aamir Liaqt throws mangoes and the Gullu Butt character tries to catch them. Gullu butt currently has more than 100,000 Installs

And now during this extremely politically tense situation which had the whole nation on its toes on 14th August we have another app continuing the …

Rise of facebook marketing in Pakistan

Until a few years back we used to have closed groups and forums, which gathered the like minded people and anyone targeting the online audience would tap into that forum and market his/her services. So PakGamers , PakPassion initially even PakWheels used to be driven by members talking about what they loved, people used to create marketing and sales opportunities from within those discussions (so you could get a good router cheap or a gaming PC etc).
The advent of facebook changed all that, most of the forum goers moved to the new social media. It also made a very attractive market place for some one who does not …

I  have been out of blogging for a long long long time, a lot of things happening on personal front (including a little startup I have ben doing my self). However during my absence I met a lot of people who had followed GreenWhite at its peak, read the articles regularly.

I had hope there would be some one else who would come ahead and cover everything going on and around us in the local tech world. There are some guys doing a great job, but for some reason I still could not find one source where I can go and read about everything, so my routine usually is to …

CCP Gives Guidelines Against Telecom Companies’ Deceptive Marketing

If only were there two things when it comes to the law, firstly the fear of breaking it and by passing the legal authority, and secondly, implementation of the law given full dedication, there would have been less competency and dishonesty in business and society. However, keeping good faith, the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has put forward “Deceptive Marketing Guidelines” which will maintain the Section 10 of the Competition Act, 2010. In order to enforce this part of the law and stop anti-competitive conduct on part of the telecom companies in advertising, the guidelines have been shared with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other concerned telecommunication sector members, in …
