Now Warid Mobile TV Powered by ROK
I guess ROK’s partnership with Telenor wasn’t exclusive — now MobileMarketingMagazine is reporting that ROK has deployed MobileTV for Warid, and that “it should be launched in a matter of weeks” and that “the channel lineup and subscription charges will be announc3ed in october”
Commenting on the announcement, ROK CEO Laurence Alexander says:“Warid
are a highly innovative and fast-growing mobile operator who quickly
realised the massive potential of Mobile TV streaming live and
on-demand channels over its existing network across Pakistan. “We are
confident of significant up-take of the service when we launch in a
matter of weeks.”

I see no point. Warid doesn’t have an EDGE network (as per their official announcements), and TV-on-mobile phones doesn’t seem to be a viable option for GPRS-enabled handsets, unless you’re willing to experience tons of jerks.
It’s like – Instaphone launching 3G applications, when their network isn’t even ready for it.
As for the pricing – I’m hoping it’ll knock some sense into Telenor – as many operators worldwide have a different APN and a different charging scheme for such services (as opposed to regular GPRS charges, which you can kiss goodbye to).
