This is a followup to one post I made about Rozee.pk, a Pakistani online job hunting site.

From the previous post, I started out with a hopeful view of Rozee which was shot down when I started working with them.

Yesterday though, I was actually impressed by them. Their product manager emailed me and showed me that:

  • They actually read my feedback in detail
  • They made concious efforts to improve the areas I pointed out to them
  • They emailed me very professionally about my comments.

I must say, I really appreciate that, Rozee. Thanks Abidoon. I hope with your continued effort your site becomes the channel of choice for employers in Pakistan.

As additional feedback, I do hope you are able to capture a bigger slice of candidates from non-IT areas. We saw very poor applicant response for Graphic Designing and Marketing posts. I think Brightspyre boasts a greater applicant pool for non-engineering posts.

Generally though, it goes to show, that a little attention to the customer can go a long way in the respect you get for your business.

  • Thanks for your feedback. You’ll be seeing a lot of changes over the next few months. There has been a pretty significant strategic shift as you noticed from recent redesign work. Sometimes we get so busy marching forward that we forget to look back — I’m glad we stumbled across your blog!

  • Quick addendum, the manual job approval process it to prevent junk job ads. You would be surprised at the kind of stuff we see. We are now the second most trafficked Pakistani website according to Alexa — people have started advertising various services in the guise of job ads. Our primary goal is to provide job seekers with quality ads, otherwise it compromises the integrity of the site.

I’m very surprised it took five days for your job to be approved and that an incorrect address was added to it. It should never take more than 24 hours to approve a posting. We clearly need to do a better job ensuring QoS on our side.

On a brighter note, you’ll soon be able to host your CDF recruitment test online connected with your job on ROZEE. You’ll also be able to autograde tests and score them online. We’d love to get you involved in our pilot program for this feature.

  • I have just thinking that yesterday. Our HR showed me the changes on the employment side and it is certainly a shift. We think the new usability design makes our work a bit faster, especially posting ads and shortlisting candidates. We are still evaluating how much it can directly benefit us before I write about it, but it is a welcome change.

  • Also, strategically speaking your system seems to be almost set to be a self-growing environment. The more information candidates put into your system, the more easily companies can shortlist and pick them. Just off the top of my head I could suggest adding a few more elements to support the strategy some more —

    (1) direct incentives for companies to use the system more (e.g. the more candidates a company interviews from Rozee, the more the candidates will have faith in the company) ;

or incentives such as hot jobs credits against specific participation / information the company provides.

This can complete the self-growing system, where all sides have a direct incentive to participate

    (2) Letting companies integrate your site with HRM systems (which should be easy). Even in our case we are beginning to see some things that Rozee does better than our HRMS but others that our IT does better. It would be good to be able to integrate them somehow.

    (3) Focus more on the edge for commercial success. Essentially right now you are using a traditional Magazine Stand model for monetizing job posts, which would work well. However I think you could benefit more by adding services such as ODesk’s and some others, which ask charge companies for the direct value created for their business because of your engine.

The changes are so far encouraging, and I would commend your web and graphic teams for some great work. I will keep evaluting it further to see how Rozee can fit into and streamline our HR process more and perhaps give a formal Kudos on the blog about it when I am sure.

  • Monis, I am sure you are doing a good job. We are coming very soon to do even better job.

  • jobdaddy,

by looking at jobdaddy.pk front page and the amount of google ads on your blog, it looks like that monis won’t even notice that you exist in the market.

  • I have great respect for Monis’s work.

I know JobDaddy.Pk is just have landing page at present but it going to take off and do a better job than anyone else in the market – Whenever you try to do something, always do it better.

Then you will all see the website fly!!

  • Thats true jobdaddy ..

first impression matters a lot and i would suggest that you improve your front page a little bit before making bold statements so that the consumer understand that you really are something worth signing up for..

having just a landing page is not bad but if it has just 4 lines in it at least those should be well written and well displayed ..

right now both in Firefox and IE text “All jobs in Pakistan” is overlapping with “Looking for a job”

also i would advise that instead of having these two lines like this

“Jobs in Pakistan – Jobs in Karachi/Lahore/Islamabad”

rearrange them like this or something better than this

    “Jobs in Pakistan
    Jobs in Karachi/Lahore/Islamabad”

Though i dont think that above things matter a lot but still it gives a first time bad impression .. I believe what matters the most is how many employers can you bring on board.

Just my two cents and wish you best of luck competing with rozee.pk and also naukrijunction.com

  • lets c who wins the heart of job seekers.. cz in the end the BEST would be decided not on your website in fact who gives more benefit to us (job seekers)

Business Incubation: False Hopes and Shattered Dreams…

When a 19th century romantic French writer by the name of Victor Hugo said “Nothing is as powerful as an idea whose time has come” he obviously could not envision Pakistani bureaucracy. Not only can it reduce an idea to nothing more than its meager skeletal remains squirming in its own vile, it too often does.

Come 2004, the IT bubble is about to burst in a military run, democratic, American influenced politically independent subcontinent country by the name of Pakistan. It is here in our story that along comes an idea. It is a simple idea yet revolutionary in every way, the idea to prepare this country for the…

    Home & Cars Expo 2012

The past whole week I was really excited about going to the exhibition on 5th and 6th at expo center Lahore since the theme read “home expo and super car expo”. I was counting on seeing some innovative home solutions, fancy cars and a lot of appliances for both. As I entered the arena, an ear piercing heavy bike engine race greeted me. Oh wow nice, we have bikes here too… and lots of them, but let’s see if we have the actual products that are expected.

First cars!! Honda Launched its new City Aspire at the event. This attracted a lot of young crowd who wanted to check it…

Football. The most popular sport in the world. That may be hard to believe, we being a die-hard cricket nation, but there are many amongst us who get their blood pumping whenever our favorite team kicks some balls (pun intended).  There’s excitement in the air, and the airwaves for that matter, when Spanish rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona are about to have a face-off on the field. Manchester United or Chelsea? The answer could incite either jeers or cheers, depending on who you’re surrounded by. It feels like you belong to an exclusive club really, not to mention how convenient it is to…

    Another SHAM ICT Funding Project

There are two main things that are currently causing out growth in ICT to stall. One is the lack of original ideas, so most of the entrepreneurs either copy what is already around internationally or locally (same ideas of online shopping, online bidding) we still have not hit the jackpot with someone creating some thing like instagram or drawsomething and being acquired by one of the big names.

The second issue always lamented by entrepreneurs is lack of any funding sources in Pakistan. Over the years we have seen efforts being made to create funds which would help but what ended happening that most of these funds either did…

    8th Layer of Networking

We all know about the 7 layers of the OSI model. This is the framework by which computer networks are defined. Starting with the physical layer, going through the transport layer and finally culminating in the application layer where end user applications reside. I believe that this should be redefined to include and additional layer – the Social Layer. From the current vantage point, the Social Layer lies right above the Application layer – hence it is served by the Application layer.

The 90s witnessed a boom in what is now referred to as web 1.0. This consisted of static applications hosted over the web. Static applications meant that…

Thiel Fellowship: right idea, wrong approach

I wanted to discuss the Thiel Fellowship and sort of run the idea among our readership to figure out if it was justified or not. Bay Area hedge fund manager Peter Thiel started a Fellowship program in his name about a year ago trying to capitalize not on start ups, but the smart kids who may actually come up with the next billion dollar idea.

Let there be no mistake. Innovation solves problems. Bankers, lawyers and hot shot executives are good for only one thing: managing an existing infrastructure. It is the innovators who turn existing ideas on to their heads and enable breakthroughs. Considering the point above, it…
