WEX 2010, The local web community and blogosphere was abuzz with this event for fewimage days, I was unfortunate not to be able to go to Islamabad due to my commitments in Lahore but Uzair one of the people behind the whole event was gracious enough to take out some time and send us some summarized coverage of the event.

“The 3 day event went great with very positive feedback from all the participants.

The WebX Blogging Workshop was attended by about 60 participants including students, faculty members and professionals from Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The 4 hour session was conducted by four professional bloggers – Saad Hamid (sizlopedia.com), Shoaib Khan (xnews.pk), Uzair Sajid (thetechnopath.com, WCCFTech.com) and Hamad Dar (koolmuzone.com, smashinglists.com). The topics covered included everything from basics like what is a blog, a microblog, how to setup your own blog, how to monetize it and drive traffic through social networks as well as advanced topics like SEO, Adsense Optimization and Social Media Marketing.

The WebX Meetup and Success Stories session was attended by over 120 participants making it the largest gathering of professional bloggers ever in Islamabad/Rawalpindi. The panelists included Hamad Dar (koolmuzone.com), Imran Hussain (ithinkdiff.com), Taimur Asad (redmondpie.com), Aamir Atta (propakistani.pk), Zeeshan Shafquat (Social Media Evangelist), Affan Haider (Head of Corporate Communications and Responsibility Functions, Telenor Pakistan), ZunNurain Khalid (ultraspectra.com), and Nabeel Ahmed and Waqas Butt (xnews.pk).

The panel moderators for the session were Uzair Sajid (thetechnopath.com) and Shoaib Khan (xnews.pk). All the panelists shared their success stories and interacted with the audience of the session.

On Day 2, a talk session on Entrepreneurship was held. The keynote speech was delivered by Mr. Tariq Chaudhry (President & CEO, Falcon Engineering Group, and President of Pakistan Computer Society). Other Entrepreneurs who shared their stories included Shehryar Hydri (COO Trango Interactive), Sajjad Zaidi (President and CEO, iinix Solutions), Waleed Riaz (Director and Program Manager, Digital Prodigy Limited), and Zubair Khan (CEO, Tranchulas). The event was attended by about 100 participants.

Day 3 featured the Internet Marketing Workshop by Google and P@SHA which was delivered by Badar Khushnood (Country Consultant, Google Pakistan). The 3 hour session was attended by representatives of over 60 software houses and IT firms from Rawalpindi and Islamabad.”

These events are needed for us  at these time of turmoil, when a lot of our brain power is draining outside we seriously need networking events in which we are able to show out human resource capabilities to others while showing our own pool of professionals the opportunities that exists right here. I congratulate the people who took the idea and executed it.

And in the end special thanks to Uzair for the coverage

So its been raining facebook games recently on Green and White. Here isimage another entry to our aspirant young entrepreneurs making games specific to facebook.

Forgive me if i seem a little biased towards this game but my whole child has passed around a carom board as it was kind of a family game :) .

So back to the game, it is one of the things most of us have thought about why not take our local game on line, why don’t we have a version of ludo, but then a lot of us are just thinkers and few go ahead and do it. same is the case with these two gentle men Ata Krimani and  Shakil Awan, one of them is the developer other is the artist a killer combination for small app production.

Game playability is outstanding, the graphic do bring vivid memories of my childhood. Currently you can play against an AI Computer Characters but they do have plans for multiplayer capabilities in future, other things are similar to a typical facebook game in which your score is displayed on profile etc. The only thing i missed in this game was the delicate cutshot,  and boric powder filled hands. here is the link do give it a shot and don’t blame the wasted time on us

Telenor has become the second national telecom operator to start using theimage Group SMS solution developed by Confiz Solutions.

The solution which was initially launched with the name of Mango Party Ufone earlier got it and launched it as SMS Buddies. Now recently Telenor has also gone ahead and is offering this service as Group SMS.

This is a healthy sign for other aspiring entrepreneurs who are focusing on VAS for telecoms, it seems that they are open for deploying VAS developed here in Pakistan which provides a very good chance for some one with limited access to western companies, previously Telenor also deployed picture sharing solution from PixSenxe as PicShare and was later also deployed for Telenor in Norway (their headquarter country) as Online Album.

Lots of congrats to the confiz team, I know personally that winning a deal from a telecom is a very hard task, it takes a lot of effort and time to get it through the door, hope they keep going like this, so if some one is keeping score they have 2 out of 5 in the bag 3 more to go which will make them the single platform for such service in Pakistan
