I have been thinking somewhat about the people who read and enjoy Green & White, and have even done a bit of research or ran polls on the blogs to understand our readers better.

I was trying to understand this transparent connection and common ground between all of us readers and authors — something that keeps us all together discussing what we do.

Then I got it — we’re all Green!

The question, how do you identify people who are Green? What are their characteristics? Who really are the visitors and community members of Green & White?!

Here’s my perspective and research on it:

  • Green & White is visited and read by entrpreneurial CEOs of small to medium companies. Most of these companies lie in the consumer software or enterprise software space. These people are probably gravitated to this website because we brainstorm solutions to industry problems, or brainstorm ways of Making Meaning. From my interactions with them, they are keep to find out about products by other vendors so that they can establish or discuss business partnerships.
  • Most of the readers are middle managers, with 7-10 years of experience with local as well as foreign firms. My research shows readers working in Mentor Graphics, Nortel Networks, Verizon, Cingular, Telenor, Nayatel, and others. From some of my discussions with them, they come here because they are able to find a short, easy to digest bit of intellectual writing.
  • A percentage of the audience are fresh employees (1-3 years), but most of them are silent observers. These people are probably interesting in current affairs in the industry — they wish to learn about hiring or employee management issues of some fo the leading companies
  • Another percentage, and perhaps the most vocal one, are graduating seniors. They are most interested about HR and Hiring issues
  • The most important common ground between all of us though, is that we all visit and participate here because we believe in the future of the country, which means we all work that extra bit harder in our jobs to ensure that we do something worthwhile.

So in short: we want to participate actively in our industry, already have extensive experience and desire to work together, and are much harder workers because we believe in our country. That’s what it means to be Green.

So let’s say it together: We’re Green. We’re proud of it.

We started this blog almost a year ago to cover Pakistan’s New Economy for people outside of Pakistan, educate each other about international best practices of value chain management and product design, and to group together as professionals working in Pakistan to solve our unique challenges.

Not all of that could be done alone, but I am impressed with how far we have come in that vision.

Now, we want to go even further. We want to finally make sure that Green & White can become the one-stop place for industry wide news, analysis, commentary and discussions.

This is a volunteer run effort managed by people in this industry. You can help this community, industry and country by participating too!
