Bramerz from Lahore was arguably Pakistan’s first citizen journalism startup – now they’ve taken another good web initiative to launch Pakistan’s first ad network for websites.

They’re selling ad-space from publisher partners to local advertisers on a CPM basis, and from the looks of it they have already gotten a number of interesting local advertisers in Bareeze, Nestle Nido and some others.

On the publisher side, they have The Nation, Brightspyre, Bloggers.pk and Teeth Maestro – arguably some of the highest-traffic “mass” destinations in PK today.

The challenge in front of clickClick is going to be to create more relevance by educating advertisers on the value (and hence premium price) of targetted advertising that moves away from a “one price fits all” model to connect ads to networks. There are much more relevant ads that can be displayed on Brightspyre, e.g., than ads about Nido. Milk doesnt grow more talented job candidates after all – training seminars would be a better advertiser (and would see higher ROI) there.

A similar problem exists in the advertising industry w.r.t. premium pricing for prime-time TV shows. Lets say there are two different TV programs on the same timeslot on two different days, but one of those shows has 4 times the audience than the other… right now the industry still follows a “one price fits all prime-time slots” but this inturn completely blocks any higher-value content from entering into the space. Higher-value, more targeted, more niche content is more expensive to produce, and unless the ad-rates go up with popularity no one is interested in the investment.

We cant expect clickClick to solve these much more deep rooted issues with the industry, but since Bramerz has been such an interesting pioneer I wouldnt be surprised if they do find a fix.

Great job with ClickClick – and here’s hoping this is just the start of some industry shifts.

    Thanks Osama, for the post.
We’re trying to give it our best shot and all these issues are surely on our notebook. The only thing is that, it will take some time to iron out all that you have mentioned and many more that we are experiencing.
The response so far has been excellent as there is a visible gap in the local online ad industry. The only organized platforms available are foreign with less local relevance for content producers and advertisers. clickClick is trying to bridge this gap and all our fingers are crossed on what we’re able to achieve.

    AOA Amer,

I just have checked your site. Your model seems quite simple but I could not see a price chart for publishers. What percentage of the rate card is going to the publisher?

I think we are already getting some awareness regarding the difference of traditional v/s online ads and all the prime time or prime space thing. Just recently we are seeing big Telecos and FMCGs allocating and spending money on advertising through various channels.

The real challenge fir such a company lies in remain competitive in the market when you have to compete with google, yahoo, MSN and other models like bidvertisers, text link ads and other agencies like value click, Casale media, etc…

As an advertiser if I can get my ad across all the country spending around 50 cents per CPM on Facebook/google why should I bother to spend over 500 Rs./CPM. What extra benifit I can get through it. May be having some exclusive spots deals with select publishers can do the trick and satisfy the prime time/position mentality of the traditional media managers of all these companies.

BTW, if you want you can strike an exclusive spot deal with us at stop.pk. We have generated over a million page views in our first month and hope to generate even more this month.

At the end I must appreciate your efforts and this really is a very nice initiative and I wish you all the best.

    @ Touseef,

I agree with you that competitiveness will increase but ClickClick.pk should be able to pace in because of relevance. For a Pakistani publisher, Adsense/Adbrite don’t have much to display accept muslim matrimony sites whereas ClickClick.pk seems to have access to companies like Nido and such.

However, I am not sure about the customer service because I never got a reply to either of my emails sent out more than a week ago.

If anyone from ClickClick.pk is reading, we are also interested and we generate over 1.5 Million page views monthly.

I would not like to thrash out on what Google, Yahoo, Msn and likes are doing, but as far as competitiveness is concerned, Yahoo n Msn are not cheap offers (I hope you are aware of that).
Online advertising options, other than Google and Facebook are not much of a local competition as there are not many local ads or even publishers with them. So clearly, so far there are these 4 competitors that we are looking at.
We do not push ourselves as being a direct competitor of any of these, we’re just another option out there. From facebook, Yahoo n Msn, there is not much direct competition as these are restricted to the properties they run and can’t take the whole chunk of online dollars. Google, we take as another option and not a competitor as such, which can really be a debatable option for Publishers.
As for the exclusive spot deal offer, we’re giving the publishers a complete level playing field whereby they can have n try various options as available. We think we’re finally going to be the best offer for the local publisher and so the stickiness. You are more than welcome to fill up the Publisher Form available @ http://www.clickclick.pk/signup and should be hearing shortly from our office.

    @ Tehseen
Sorry about that delay. We did receive your expression of interest. The only thing is that alongside the sign-ups we’re getting, we are also constantly testing and improving the system looking at the response we’re getting by serving the current ads on partner websites.
So in short we’re patiently signing-up more publishers on our Ad Network, while closely monitoring and optimizing the current system for better scalable performance.
Nevertheless, you should shortly be hearing from us within a day or so.
Thanks for the patience and regret that you had to mention it.

  13. Javaid Ghani Said:

Osama Hashmi claims that publishers cannot control or block ads that the network sends to his site. If this is true, there is a major problem with clickclick.pk and it will not work long term as more advertisers are added. This flaw alone will prevent serious uptake by credible publishers and advertisers.

  14. Ali Said:

@Javaid, no this is not a major problem with clickclick and it may still take off.

By the way, would you like to share your credentials with the community here (if you don’t mind)? I am just curious.

  15. Corona Said:

No, Javaid at this thread too :/

Don’t want to see the same happening with the Mango thread :D

  16. Ejaz Alam Said:

Well I think if click click can make up, then we don’t need to look towards google or adbrite. After all there is no dearth of genius in Pakitan…

  17. Ejaz Alam Said:

There is some problem with sign up form. After I filled in details it gives error as
“The cell number field must contain a number” and ” The url is invalid.” whereas everything is filled correctly. I hope clickclick will fix it up…..

  18. Amer Sarfraz Said:

Apologies for the inconvenience. There is actually a specific way in which the Sign-Up form has to be filled and I admit that (if there was a specific way) it should have been categorically mentioned.
Will get it fixed right away.
    Thanks for pointing it out.

I just luanched my website, akhsshub.com, and I was shocked to see that not a single ad company was working for the Paksitani traffic. I also checked clickclick.pk but my web browser shows some “web forgery” report ,as for advertising.pk I didnt get their interface, like not at all. Looks like some web hosting control panel.
