Irfan caught somethingvery interesting from the tubes - the latest Mobilink commercial hints that it will be offering an iphone soon.

This is deliberate, and not just a coincidence, because thats the only phone in the commercial that gets its own frame-shot.

Anybody with inside news? Maybe we can call this number (marketers leave hints like these to special customer support lines, especially in movies)….

Great catch Irfan

surely there is something behind it…. mobilink always markets aggressively with future insight… great catch indeed….

OMG! THis has to be amazing

I will try to feature this on Sizlopedia.com

I already have an iPhone but if its commercially coming to Pakistan that will be great

  3. Rakesh Said:

Noticed the same during the ad yesterday evening.

But I kinda dismissed it with them being just way-too-flashy than they can be.

iPhone in Pakistan? looks possible, but while we know that companies are trying to recover their dropping revenues, i don’t opine that they will/should bring in such a device which will have sort of limited audience. Until it was blackberry, it was understandable, coz blackberry is a different device with different intends.

What they can do is to follow Ufone’s bundle offer (handset + connection + aritime in Rs. 1000) to reach the masses.

Other thing, that maybe is hindering the operators’ way to bring in iPhone is that the culture/trends in Pakistan does not support subsidized/locked phones. Again blackberry is an exception.

By the way iPhone is available in Pakistan for PKR 45,000

One thing which is not related to this post specifically but to the video. I have never imagine an Rx8 or what ever Mazda car has been used in this TVC, has such a bad engine that it would have water in it?.”Engine main pani agaya hoga “. Common our Marketers … what is this, it would have been okay if it was Mehran, but Mazda … the engine is so much covered that i might need a fire hose to flush in.

Our marketing think tanks and esp @ Mobilink should atleast see what words or things there are using in their adds.

i hope no body from Mazda is seeing it.

Note: i dont own an Rx8 but do correct me if i am wrong about its engine ;-)

  8. chikky Said:

and yes about the iphone, i doubt its availability in Pakistan as i dont see pakistan in the world wide launch and the coming soon section.

any idea what would be the package and how much time will it take.

    I would surely get one

  10. Adnan Ali Said:

Some one tell me, how the hell does water get into the engine of a car like that.

Who is making these decisions for Mobilink? First they show rich people flying around in private jets, working in offices filled with gadgets and luxury and being happy that they can save a few rupees on friends and family numbers. Now they have this stupidity.

    ‘Engine main pani aa gya’?

  11. Adnan Ali Said:

I believe they are being flashy and that is all. If India is getting iPhone it is because those operators are some how linked with Singtel. It is linked with Warid in Pakistan and Warid has no plans for iPhone upon my last query.

Warid is also coming out with Blackberry in a few weeks so I do not think we are getting iPhone.

Mobilink ads have stopped making any sense since they started this new indigo campaign.

What about the “mobilink” network name on the top-left of the iphone screen? Does that appear for hacked ones too?

  13. Asif Razzaque Said:

As they say, Mobilink took Mazda for a free ride :-))

  14. Babar Bhatti Said:

Funny - Roadside assistance, South Asian style.

Anything can be hacked for an ad. I have not found a good reason why Apple left out Pakistan for this year iPhone launch. But hey, 2009 is not that far away.

  15. Salman Said:

Hey Guys…! Any Ideae About The Package…?

  16. Raza Said:

OMG … this is the most bizarre advertisement i have ever seen. Mazda RX8 Vs Rain drops !!!

Even monkeys could have come up with a reasonable idea, i wonder who came up with this “Enlightended Concept”

  17. Rashad Said:

i think u can thank the guys at orient mcann ..buffoons all of them; wen it comes to creatin an ad concept these days..met a few guys runnin the show there..i swear 90% of indian ads u c on tv definitely make u think! even the bad ones leave some sort of an impression..i guess our agencies lack creativity wen it comes to ad concepts n all..even zong ad was a copy..neway comin bac to the post..i hvn’t heard ne thin at all abt an official mobilink sponsored iPhone launch..besides apple doesn’t consider paksitan a lucrative market..but lets hope..

  18. Asif Said:

I reckon when iPhone launches in Pakistan, Mobilink will be the one launching.

They have the largest user-base and they still have high arpu post-paid users.

They also have the most consistent branding, which has stuck through time. They are good!
