Guess what! Wateen finally sent me their bill. Looks like their billing system is up (not sure though). Whats interesting to know, like its sister concerns Warid & Bank Al-falah, they also have managed to bring hidden charges. I very clearly remember their sales representative (wateen’s, not franchise) hammering it on my head that, I would only be charged Rs. 1350/- Per Month for a 512KB /10GB cap package. And for that I was required to give 11 months post-dated cheques and first month in advance with equipment cost. Now, if you look at exhibit A, they have managed to bring out Rs. 891.50 worth of charges, i’m liable to pay.
Its the 3rd billing month and this is the first bill i’m receiving. What’s interesting to note is the line rent for telephone service, their IVR hold music also very clearly announces “telephony services for ZERO line rent!”
I was not yet satisfied with their falsified claims by Wateen’s support staff about why they are charging me Rs. 1350 and every billboard out their announcing that I should be paying Rs. 799/- for the same. Now, they have sent me unjustified bill.
What you guys think about Wateen’s policies? Do we, consumer have any say in this? What we, as consumers can do about it?
People at Wateen, if you are reading this - Please participate in this discussion and enlighten us about your thought process and how you come up with these beautiful packages?

Let me think… we, as consumers, can:
* Spread the word about any pathetic product on as many platforms as we can.
* Launch a compliant with the consumer protection authorities in Pakistan - somebody told me they do exist.
* Stop being their customer and urge others to do the same. If their service is as bad as it looks, and if people switch to other options (as they DO exist), they won’t last for long anyway.
* IANAL, but if they don’t have that tiny star in their ads (the one that comes with VERY fine print hidden somewhere), then it becomes a case of fraudulent marketing and should be treated as such.
* Launch a complaint with PTA - I believe PTA still has some authority over their rates and figures.
* Stop using the internet. Seriously, it is overrated anyway…
May 23rd, 2008 at 8:18 pm
Salman - you have raised important points. As punslinger said, we should raise these concerns at other platforms as well. I’d like to publish this at my blog as well if thats ok with you?
And by the way, don’t give up yet … you never know what might happen after enough noise is raised.
May 23rd, 2008 at 9:27 pm
this should be published at as many places as we can. i’m a wateen customer myself…
repeating babar’s request, can we publish this post of yours’ on our blogs?
May 23rd, 2008 at 9:43 pm
I was just planning to have Same Wateen package, but now I’m thinking to step back after reading this blog, I agree with the comments from “punslinger” that we should spread the message as much as we can.
May 23rd, 2008 at 10:55 pm
Gentlemen! Please feel free to publish/use the info on your blogs and other forums. I’m willing to scan the whole bill/invoice for you.
@ Baber! I’m not giving up. Principally Wateen’s product is great and as the rainy season has started (its raining here in Lahore), i’m not sure how long my back-up PTCL DSL on fibre will work.
Well, my post was a rant on the billing issue. But last friday I experienced a very interesting event with Wateen. We started our office a bit early that day and wateen’s wireless router died down on us around 9:45. After the usual restart / re-enter login password, it wont work. On calling the support number, rather remarkably a support guy called up within 30 minutes. Very nice! The support gentlemen, a very polite, in uniform came, connected the router to his laptop and for 2 hours did I think at least a million different experiments. We were able to work just as normal on our PTCL backup. When he finally gave up, he requested to take the unit with him to get it tested. Again interestingly, he came back just after the juma break to announce that “an Ericsson team is working on the Access point and the issue will be resolved by evening”. It wasn’t resolved till next morning.
The question! How badly is the support staff managed. I helped the guy by giving him as much support, backup laptop, patch cable etc. moral support as it was his 1st week on job, but how bad is the manager at back-end who had no clue his support staff is working their best to sort out issues whereas the vendors are working on their products?
Another juicy thing, I can confirm that till this day I personally numerous people who are using FOD devices just as We, the paid users are using them. Why? Wateen has no clue about these devices
Nice management!
May 23rd, 2008 at 11:25 pm
Thank you for letting us know about this weasel company.
I was thinking of getting it installed, but will be looking for other alternatives.
May 23rd, 2008 at 11:35 pm
@ Kellie! As Baber said don’t give up! I’m not at all proclaiming that we should give up on them. I’m just trying to make one company realize, hey! we consumers are the reason you are here for, listen to us, serve what you have agreed upon and charge only what you have publicized. The hidden charge agenda should end now!
May 23rd, 2008 at 11:43 pm
OK, I won’t give up on them. They might, just might be better than PTCHell DSL.
May 24th, 2008 at 2:11 am
Whoa Kallie!
PTCL DSL is actually very decent and reliable… it is the PTC Losers that are the problem. If you have the bandwidth you want (I don’t, and I submitted my upgrade application in April) and if you don’t need to call their support, you are in pretty good shape.
May 24th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
I have shifted my apartment from second floor to ground floor.
And… wateen does not work on ground floor. The tech support has said to place the wateen box on second or third floor.
This is the mobility feature in Wateen. Poor execution….
May 24th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
I have no choice but to disagree. I get bad service and customer service is just a lip service.
May 24th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
interesting… btw, salman you mentioned warid having hidden charges. i’ve been usnig their postpaid for two years and haven’t once received a hidden charge?
as for wateen’s service, i haven’t used it yet.. but i think they should be given a break. wimax is still pretty new with a lot of operational issues everywhere. if they’ve got erricson teams working on their access points then i guess atleast they’ve got the support the need to ensure an eventual successful rollout.
May 24th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
Isnt a motorola team supposed to be working at wateen AP? as opposed to ericsson
May 27th, 2008 at 1:35 am
Hey your guys im livin in defence and using wateen cable services. the day services are installed im not able to use wateen VOIP its Simply doesnt work. i have called so many times on help line. i even tried to email them the situtation but no the mailbox doesnt exsist which they show on their offical website.
i dont know What to DO!:S
May 27th, 2008 at 11:22 am
@ Salman Munir, I was going to agree with you there till I decided to look at your attached invoice. Man, you seriously need to learn how to read
Current dues (891) and equipment rental (499) are supposed to be covered by your payment made earlier i.e. your payment received (1350). So Wateen is not charging you any additional amount, and the ZERO line telephony is only one of the packages they offer!
You are being billed for Rs. 463 (of which 423 are your arrears, that you might not have paid earlier and is *NOT* a monthly recurring amount and Rs. 40 is tax)
And whats more interesting is that almost everyone agreed with you without looking at the bill itself (14 comments in all). Kudos to all of you
But I have to agree with you, we are the reason they are here and they need to put us first, but we also need to give the new entrants a chance, I am a user since they started their friendly user trials and I have seen an improvement in not only their services but also their customer services(you wouldn’t expect a PTCL or LDN support guy to show up within a week, let alone 30 minutes, the reason I abandoned PTCL altogether)
Here’s to hoping they learn fast and so does the competition.
May 28th, 2008 at 11:07 am
@ Chinky!
Thank you for taking out time and reading the bill ; correcting my fault. But I have to disagree with you as I have been to Wateen office personally and read your comments afterwards.
Here is the deal now! According to Wateen, the current bill of Rs. 463 is due to the fact that initiation of my account was not 1st of that month and this little amount is the arrear amount between 1st and the my account initiation date. This is an error on their part and in my next invoice it will be referred as MINUS Rs. 464. But their is more to it, I still need to pay them tax of Rs. 40/-. If I take the current bill to any franchise/payment place they will ask me to pay Rs. 463 + 423 = Rs. 891 to be paid. But as they have instructed me to pay only Rs. 40, for that i might just see what happens if I don’t pay.
This information wouldn’t have been so easy to get if I was a walk-in customer, I was guided by a friend in Wateen to the right direction and still it took 2 hrs in their office to sort this out. I agree they are new to this, as they just started using their billing app - but clarity of statement and why even Rs. 40/- is still required to be paid is the question here!
May 28th, 2008 at 11:17 am
I’m a wateen user myself and I have to say I am as disappointed as anyone here. I received a wateen bill just like Salman and was as puzzled and angry at the breakdown.
@ Manssor: wimax is still pretty new - agreed! they should be given a break - well I don’t think so. When you launch a product in the market you have to make SURE it PERFORMS, otheriwse its bound to get bad reviews and fail. The only reason why WiMax was launched in Pakistan was that the technology hasn’t matured globally and “we” deemed as the perfect breeding ground for testing it since there is a lack of law and order in the country; no one will complain. Check out the Australian wimax disaster here http://techlahore.wordpress.com/2008/03/24/the-australian-wimax-disaster/
Has anyone ever heard of a company being sued in Pakistan for bad services?
Adding to this, there is a lot of govt investment in the wimax project. It really saddens one to see it being wasted like this.
I am not against the technology at all, its just that we consumers are casually taken for a ride. Its about time this STOPS!
May 29th, 2008 at 11:46 am
Yeh same thing happened to me as well!!!
i aint payin their bill!!
May 29th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
hey there guys..
i would like add, wt saad said. we can sue them in consumer market courts but then who got a time to do that. actually due to poor understanding of systems becuase of the educatoin level in pak. we guys are unable to understand about our rights.
beside this, Wateens costomer services has improved a lot. day before yesterday i called them all problems are fixed with in 12 hours. :). That was good .
enjoy!
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:52 am
You all are geting confuse about Wateen Billing. Wateen never make excess charges. The person who has mentioned his bill also confused there is 463 not 891. There is Tax over linerent, which in not under control of Wateen or not in your hand. Its ok we are new in market and there is no compatior of wateen WiMAX……. Make sure
Future is Wateen………… Ali Sialkot.
June 3rd, 2008 at 10:55 am
i am a colleague and a friend of this guy Ali Naqvi(who posted the last comments)and co-incidentally he works for Wateen Telcom as a CSO so it was quite natural for him to defend his employers… you are all right about hidden charges… Wateen is no more different than all other telecom companies that deceive their customers in the name of quality service and with the passage of time this quality goes all down the hill… so beaware of Wateen Telecom because Wateen,s motto is WE DISCONNECT!
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:06 am
@ Ajnum, Thank you for the reality dose.
June 4th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
I’m also rather confused with Wateen’s way of handling things.
I also received this letter this month and well, with no receipt of how much cash they took out from my bank account. I’m yet to check out the bank statement (been lazy).
but their service is indeed not up to the mark. The wateen franchises everywhere have people who aren’t good enough when it comes to providing meaningful reliable information.
I know nothings perfect, but they have to be a little more professional in their way of handling things.
June 4th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
I had 3 bad experiences with wateen wimax service one of which is very similar to Salman’s post.
1) during my 3 months of useage the wimax device restarts once every 15 minutes which itself takes about 3-5 minutes to boot completely. so this infect means that 20-25% of the time the device is just rebooting and i have to bear the interuption. call to support does not help with anything (as usuall).
2) i already had a PTCL DSL which after 3 months of usage tured out to be better (stable, cheaper, easier) then wateen wimax so i decided to dump the wateen device. in order to return the device i had to spent 5 hours and traveled to 3 differnet offices of wateen around Karachi (including Karachi HO) and all of them refused to collect it saying that it can only be returned to the specific wateen office/outlet/franchise from where i initially bought it. i should mention here that i never bought it from any of the wateen office, infect i received a call from wateen Lahore during their launch and they offered me a special package and within 2 days of my green signal their technical guys came and droped the device at my premises, now how am i suppose to return it back…. goto lahore or what !!!!!. i faced the worst customer service presentation at the wateen HO when no one even cared to talk to me and they just forwarded messages with the office guard/peon that one officer is not in office other is busy on phone and the rest are not interested so go to the person u bought it in first place !!…
later i find out that one of wateen partner sold this device to me and so i will have to track him and return the wateen device back to him and not wateen !..
3) finally after much waste of time and frustration when i was able to get rid of that device instead of recieving my post dated checks and refund money i got a bill from wateen for my past 3 months of usage (yeah first bill ever just like the case with salman) with an amount of Rs10,379/- !!… stating many many different line rents, device rents, additional charges, previous pending charges etc etc…
the “SPECIAL” package that was offered to me by wateen was 512 unlimited with only 1500/- initial payment but according to the bill it was not the case and the call from wateen sales department was as lie and they charged me for 17GB of extra data usage in just one month !!… which i could not have downloaded even in my cumulative 3 months of usage as i was also using my PTCL DSL due to frustration with wateen re-login “FEATURE” after every 15 minutes.
so i made a call to wateen support and asked the details of my usage which despite their promise was never delivered to my email. next they also denied the initial sales call with unlimited package details. the unit price of per GB extra charge was also more then what wateen has mentioned on their website. and there was no answer (as expected) when i asked why i was never warned by any email, sms or portal login page for reaching my 10GB limit.
in short this was THE worst experience i had with any consumer service oriented company, i have been using internet since 1995 (the days when digicom launched) but sateen took the crown for worst service and customer relationship.
My bill is still with me, Salman what have u done with this bill ? I think none of us should pay it to them.

Ah, another weasel company.

http://www.wiredpakistan.com/forums/viewforum.php?id=4 is a good place to share and find info on pakistani ISPs and wateen’s pathetic services
June 18th, 2008 at 10:31 am
Hey its a good post to know about that there are other customer too, who out there have faced the unreliable services of WATEEN
I have faced something with them a step ahead, Guess WHAT
Its been 7 months since I have paid wateen a sum of 19k PKR for a telephone and WiMAX device and still I haven’t got any thing [ no services no device ] from them WOW !
10 days after the sales guy took the cheque from me the installation team came to me and coz of non availability of service in my area they told me that my cheque will be refunded and they went back with there so called LRGE SIZE MOBILITY DEVICE WITH A HALF KG POWER ADOPTER you know what the very next day I came to know that these evils have deducted the sum from my account [ I made it sure with the bank that the amount went to wateens account and no body else]
and since that day I am struggling to get my money back but no one is there to reply
a few days back when I emailed to the main support , the guy there assured me of the refund process but he not even picks my phone
HAM SAB UMEED SAY HAIN !
I’d appreciate if any one could provide me with the contact email / number of some senior official in that pathetic company
June 20th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
I 100%ly agree with all issues mentioned as above. Realistically speaking ; nothing gonna change over night nor any maic gennie gonna make it happen. Its just a matter of use it or leave it no other options.

Those lame idiots have disabled my internet for non-payment of the telephony services. Last month, I was shocked to receive a bill of 6,600rs and subsequently, I requested the billing details. On viewing the telephony details, to my surprise, there were so many of the numbers that I or anyone else in the family could never dial - all to U.A.E - of worth more than 4,500rs. I’m 100% sure no one using the phone legally could have dialed them, as I was always at home near to the phone at the time they were dialed - it’s so because I’m working at that time on my PC and the phone is placed at the same place. And that 4,500rs money laundering issue is still not resolved despite numerous complaints that never get answered and are always under investigation - it’s been more than 3 weeks!
Now I can’t be sure of it, but it might be one of the Wateen’s engineer. An engineer fixed my telephony service in march (remotely, via phone) and on the very same day, these calls started and were continuously made, daily, for 11 more days. That’s what I found from the billing details and my memory.
How the hell am I supposed to pay when I never made those calls and the issue is still not resolved? There’s some common sense to it which they don’t seem to be equipped with.
Wateen is a good project done bad. It’s filled with crooks using others’ telephones and perhaps internet services to their own benefit.
June 25th, 2008 at 1:23 am
Country men!
Get this thing clear first that Its not Wateen Telecom
its
Yateem Telecom
Secondly there is no one to register all of your problems in Yateem telecom none of you is blinking on any radar for them whether u email them , visit their franchise or even call their helpline they will listen to your complain, would try to register it even at times would send one odd guy to check it up otherwise its 21st century do it your self how its your problem? However if u want to see their response ask for a new connection get a favor of signal testing and they would accompany a team of machos with you with all accesories and install the system within no time you pay them and gets happy that you have 1024 kbps speed but with passage of time you come to know that all of your investment was invain and its your turn and baby to solve the issue and missing links like
1. if i donot have the telephony connection why are they charging me? ANSWER Its your baby now….
2. I have subscribed for 1024 kbps why i am receiving less than 512kbps? ANSWER Its your baby now….
3. I have subscribed and paid for static IP why my speed is being shared ?ANSWER Its your baby now….
4. If they install the outdoor jupitor to receive signal from a single tower in that area after relocation of that tower who will relocate my jupitor device direction?ANSWER Its your baby now….
5. I have paid for 1 GB account and have not used it even once why they have charged me in billing for over usage?ANSWER Its your baby now….
6. Last not least i have returned the Yateem Jupitor deive back to them and requested for refund and even then they send you a bill with all the arrears hmmmmm at least you know now that its your baby now their setup and services are Yateem but atleast this baby is not yateem you are here to feed and take care of it
Lols Happy Usage of Yateem Telecom
June 27th, 2008 at 9:02 am
@Bilal
Ok though I hate what Wateen is doing, just other day my partner’s home Wateen connection came with a staggering bill of 19,000 Rs! Guess he had gone twice over limit and Wateen forgot to let him know!
Anyway to your some of the points:
1. Thanks to Wateen’s policies you are “forced” to pay for their phone connection for two months. You can only discontinue after that.

2. They have a variable bandwidth and I suspect when they sell 1024 connection they are not telling that its burst-able not standard fixed 1024 connection!
3. Having a static IP does not mean you will have a dedicated channel! Dedicated channels are still pretty expensive than a 2000 Rupay main LinkdotNet
4. Thanks for warning I was planning to get it installed at my home
5. Only if it can help you feel better, as I mentioned earlier my partner is being charged 19,000 Rupees this month
Best of luck!
June 27th, 2008 at 9:49 am
TRY and read all da policies … and dont blame wateen for everything .
otherwise just talk to there customer service manager .
\stop dis nonsense as well
June 27th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
@ Meju, I suspect, we all the readers and contributors must have hit you hard in some way or you are the query responsible for entering the posts on Mysql server on which this wordpress installation relies.
If you recall from above, wateen doesn’t have any policy in place. Its a fiasco there. Not only they have a problem in their service, they have a big issue of coming up with an answer to our queries.
If you are from support, call me and enlighten me about what policies have been decided, if they have been (chances are near to 0)!
June 28th, 2008 at 1:04 am
Asalamoalaikum to all , i am using wateen’s wimax for six month and i still didn’t get the bill at my address and i went today to their franchise and asked them for my bill , and they said the i have the bill of 22000 Rupees! i was shocked and told them to check it again but they said that is the right bill i m using 512 kb connection with 2 gb volume …and it is still running i said them why they didn’t let me know if i was exceeding my limit even though i didn’t have any deposit as well …and i was crossing my limit why they didn’t block my connection …it doesn’t make any sense …for example i we dont pay the electric or whatever another bill for 2 months they send us the notice and cut out our line …but why they didn’t do this at least they could let me know by sending me e-mail which i had provided them in the form…. in reply they said that this is the favor they are giving to their postpaid customer to keep continue there service even if they do cross their limit… and i said that you people should have to ask the customer first that if the really want this sort of favor… well i was so anger and said that i m not willing to pay this bill this is completely out of sense ..what kind of billing system is this that you dont get your bill for 6 months and they dont let you know if your of your limit and they keep crediting it … i want you guys to spread this message to as many as you can ,there would be many users like me who are facing the same thing as i m ….

Yateem Telecom
June 30th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
Dear Friends my story is different and really interesting I am putting the same letter which I wrote to authorities:
To,
Mr. Tariq Malik,
C.E.O. Wateen Telecom (Pvt.) Ltd.
Subject: Closure of service due to sub standard Customer Service
Respected Sir,
My name is Muhammad Sarfraz Chughtai. I am one of the pioneer clients of Wateen Telecom in MULTAN. I applied for Wateen Telecom’s connection on 31st of December 2007 just a day before its official launching. From that very day I got so much problems with the services of Wateen that I decided to stop using it. As I mentioned it before I applied for Wateen Telecom’s connection on 31st of December 2007, I was told that the Consumer Premises Equipment will be sent to my home with in 48 hours. But I received it on 15th of January 2008, when I went to the Wateen Telecom’s Franchise. Secondly, Wateen charged me PKR. 1000/= as installation fees but there was no assistance given to me in installation process by Wateen Telecom. From 1st of February 2008 , I start getting Wateen Telecom’s services properly but on 1st of March 2008 my Telephony Service was being suspended and told by Wateen Telecom’s Help line service that there is some technical problems with it. I was continuously in contact with Wateen Telecom’s Helpline (111-365-111) regarding to my Telephony Service but they keep telling me some stories. At the start of May 2008 I was told by Wateen Telecom’s Helpline that the services are being blocked by Wateen Telecom due to non payment. I told them that I haven’t received any billing invoice and secondly I am using a prepaid package in which I have already provided Wateen Telecom 11 post dated cheques of 1350 each. But there was no positive response from Wateen Telecom’s Helpline. On 20th of May 2008 I received the First Billing Invoice from Wateen Telecom which stated that I have to pay PKR. 3271.50 and they disconnected my Internet Service. When I contacted on Helpline they said to me that I am a defaulter of Wateen Telecom and unless I pay the amount to Wateen Telecom my services will remain close. I contacted my bank for this matter and got response that Wateen Telecom has already taken PKR. 4050/= from my bank account. I contacted the Franchise for this matter as well and provided them the copy of my Bank Statement. In response, I got a call from Wateen Telecom on 12th of June 2008 and being told that I am clear and Wateen Telecom is having PKR. 778.50 on their end payable to me. But my Services are still blocked. I contacted them again and they told me that my services will be resumed when I will receive next billing invoice.
Now my patient is over and I cant bear any more humiliation from Wateen Telecom. So I decided to get rid of this headache. I wrote this letter just to inform you about the level of service your company is providing to customers. Hope so you take some positive steps to stop such kind of worst services.
Best Wishes,
Muhammad Sarfraz Chughtai
email to support@wateen.com
carbon copy to The Chairman, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority
bcc to The President, Multan Press Club
After this letter I got immediate response from PTA but no response from WATEEN. I returned the device but still waiting for my refunds which is nearly PKR.1300/=
From my experience there is only one thing to say “WATEEN SUCKS”
June 30th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
Okay, now I have a different story to tell. A positive one to change things:
I got a bill from Wateen asking me to pay Rs. 3300. I called their support, and asked why did I get a bill like that when I’ve provided all the post dated checks (with good money in my bank account - so that can’t be a problem).
They confirmed and told me that they’ve sent me the bill by mistake as their Finance department did not have my updated data. Therefore, they asked me to ignore that bill. Then I told them my phone’s not working, and the noted it down and the next day the guy came in with his tools and fixed up my stuff and upgraded my software.
So now that I don’t have to pay anything extra to wateen, I’m still happy
July 7th, 2008 at 5:18 pm
You are very much correct Mr. Sufiyan!
My name is sohail, I am a resident of Qasimabad Hyderabad. I purchased wateen’s service under package A2 on 17th of January 2008. I made hurry in purchasing because they were offering free internet and telephony till 31st. Wateen provided me with indoor unit and my internet started but my telephony service was not active till 5th of February. After that there were many problems over the telephony service and amid that I got a letter from billing section of wateen that you can enjoy free telephony to specified countries up till 31st March. The telephony service was such a bad that a person can not talk to anyone using wateen’s telephony service. In the month of April the internet facility also went disturbed and my cpe started to on and off every two minutes. I complained and the wateen’s technical team visited my premises several times and at last after 15 days they wateen’s staff asked me to install outdoor unit because they have coverage problem in my area. On confirming I came to know that my area was never been wateen’s coverage area but Franchise sold their product by deceiving me. After a much hue and cry, finally I got outdoor unit installed on my premises, and after a week I got telephony device for telephone.
Since 17th January, I never received any bill for my usage and on inquiring about my usage the wateen’s help line told me that you will be given web portal soon from where you will be able to check your usage. At that time I asked them that how will you justify if there is excessive billing and on that the operator remained silent and assured me that you will be provided with web portal soon. Today, on 7th July I got bill which is having bill month Apr 2008 and billing date May 21, 2008 and due date June 05, 2008. It shows total payable bill before due date 106,013.
(which means one lac six thousand and thirteen rupees).
And showing current dues 63,085.08 and previous balance 42,378.90.
You all readers may be laughing what a kind of bill it is, because I am a domestic user and not a corporate user.
I don’t know what wateen is trying to do… what they think, and what they believe. I think that they believe that people are fool and what ever and in what way we bill them, they will pay it without questioning. But, I think that this will not be held correct in my case. I have substantial proofs against them to litigate and seek justice, not for me but for all the affected customers.

Dear Friends
I am also facing these kinds of problems. I have taken the device from their franchise office which is opposite from Jinnah Terminal. Their sales person said there is NO CHARGING for browsing. Only download file will be charged and somany other things for urgent selling. Despite that I have face the following problems :-
a) They don’t have technical person who even can make you connections for Two PCs. The sales person has tried their best. I separately hire a person for Networking (Installation Charges paid twice)
b) After taking money from me they are unable to provide me my ID & P/W. After visiting their office the manager contact more then Half Dozen peoples for ID. After Hour or so he provided the ID, which is also NOT WORKING at their office. For which they said it would work after half an hour. After waiting and complains at franchise office whole day they said to contact wateen’s help line which also took half day.
c) They have also taking Rs.2,000/- as deposit money. But they are NOT giving any receipt Accidentally I have given Rs.200/- Less so they are saying that they will give me in writing on their letterhead as receipt. The same problem is facing my friend who is providing Cable Net service at Malir- 15 (M/s. Fast Computers) He also made a complain at help line and they promise that within 24 hours some one will contact you, after Four working Days the problem stand still.
The franchise Manager comparing their Company with Government Office (PTCL) UHHHHHHH UHHHHH

Dear Freinds
Thank you for your response on the topic.
First we should pray for our country in the aftermath of yesterday’s ugly bombing episode.
I would like to respond to some suggestion and tips given by you guys on the above subject.
1) Yes I am geeting full signal strength in my area (Gulistan-e- Jauhar Block 3 Karachi)
2) Wateen technician visited so far at my place also accepted that it is not signal strength related issue but there is some backend problem in wateen’s prepaid service and ideally I should get atleast 100 kbps speed. (also confirmed by my freind Syed Mudassar. If it is a range related issue then why wateen is charging Rs 1000 for installation. They should have visited my location first to tackle the range issue. They charged me installtion fee but they never did any installtion related work or visited my place; rather they just handed over the device and said bye bye you are on your own!!!!!!)
3) But as soon as they left my place they (technician) changed their stance and started giving lousy reasons.
Kind regards
ISB

I have subscribed for Wateen’s Internet and voice prepaid services on 13th May 2008.This is/was infact the biggest mistake I have ever committed because of the following:
Firstly:- I got getting 7kbps (Yes SEVEN kbps can any one believe) downloading speed with internet connectivity of 1MBps!!!!! When I contacted (& still contacting) Wateen’s help line they gave me solution to delete temporary internet files and cookies!!!!! Wateen got the most pathetic help line I have ever come across.
On my persistence finally my complaint was registered having reference numbers 59683, 58716, there was yet another number which I am not recalling at the moment.
So far four technicians have visited my place and I am still getting on an average 15-20 kbps downloading speed. I have been continuously following up my compliant at Wateen helpline 111-365-111 for quite some time now and still getting the same lousy response “clean your temporary internet files”!!!!!
I invite any body still interested in Wateen for free demonstration of Wateen’s pathetic service at my place on a 7/24 basis under “watch and try for yourself” claim!!!!!!
Further I give open invitation to you all that just quote reference of my complaint numbers using my Wateen ID/reference and speak at 111-365-111 and have a laugh at the solution they come up with.
I also put a question before learned group members (having IT background) to let me know what should be the ideal downloading speed at 1MBps connectivity?
I also putting question before Wateen management is it Ethical for them in the context of COBP to harass and charge the customers for services they cannot deliver? Or they are just Thugs in the corporate profile.
Secondly, when I originally subscribed the service, Wateen franchise gave me understanding that Rs 799 were specifically charged against internet surfing and telephone usage i.e. I can either use the amount (Rs 799) towards internet usage to the maximum 4GB of download, or I can make phone calls against such amount or use both the services while being within the limit i.e. Rs 799. This balance is valid for three months i.e. counted from the date of activation of service. But later that understanding proved wrong. You can visit at your nearest Wateen Franchise and they will still give you the same understanding that Internet balance is valid for 3 months.
Thirdly, Uptill 15 days, counted from the day of subscription, I could not have my telephone service activated but Wateen was not reluctant to change me for that service. On the top of it I was given response from one of the staff member I contacted that “why am I so bothered for such an immaterial amount i.e line rent?” Wow what a trained and sophisticated staff the company has under its wings!! I was given two complaints numbers having reference 44146 (within 24 hours of subscription) , 48164 a week later and 59674.
Fourthly, For more then one month I could not check my internet usage. I think a cheapest mobile service on click of few buttons can let you know available balance to the accuracy of two decimals place. I also shot email at their support email address and spoke many at helpline but no one could give me satisfactory response. But all of them were pretty sure that if over run my given downloading limit I would be charge extra over and above Rs 799. Now why the hell I be charged for usage which I could not verify and track?
Lastly, after being fade up of all these I have applied for complete refund as Wateen failed to give the standard and quality of service they promise when they charge my account. However, I am getting response that I may not get the full amount back.

The final nail in the coffin!
Today, I experienced a real bad net day with Wateen. First on calling the support, the agent was persistent on not sending in the technical agent, I had to really fight for it.
When the agent came in, after the initial silence of opening the laptop, connecting to the device and checking different readings - he came to me with a form titled “Return Material Authorization Form” i.e. they want to refund me of all my dues and say bye bye. How come, why, now what happened. Apparently, I’m not in coverage area! Questions!
1. When they sold me the service about 6 months ago, how come I was in the most dense signal strength area (i happen to be in Liberty near Sunfort hotel)
2. If they have changed APs, how come they just forgot about all the customers in this area.
Suggestions and idea’s about what should I do. With the ongoing ptcl strike, any other ISP will require 1-2 weeks to get me a dsl line and then it would be another hell to manage a phone line in this rainy season!

Hello Folks, It is nice to see so many people discussing commendable issues here. Got this link at google blogs. So, i thought I should also plunge into the discussion.
Emmm…Well, in my case, Wateen’s services are pretty good, (make it pleasant). I’m getting a good 120 Kbp without any issues. Though, the speed slows down from 120, depending on the signals strength but I’m talking about an average.
About the unlimited downloads, I don’t know what you guys want to download! 10 Gb is a hell of a limit! Is it not? Use internet for the sake of benefiting yourself. Movies and Softwares are available in CD/DVD, if that is what makes you crazy. (I don’t know what to do with Pakis’ Complaining Habits .Ugh!!)
I appreciate the current technological developments being made in Pakistan. The service is not only fresh in Pakistan but also in the entire world. Even in Australia, they are having problem with wimax services. Such basic problems always occur but what is admirable, is the establishment of a brand new technology in our country. At least, it gives us connectivity where other wired services cannot. Moreover, it has raised our name in global market.
By the way, I’m living in DHA phase 5 Khi.. I don’t hear anyone blaming Wateen for anything. Its good here. Lol. I think I’m lucky

It is a very old saying that the sense of ownership and sense of serving and satisfying the users/customer dwell down from the top. The pathetic and “who cares” sort of attitude we have been experiencing from the lower tier of Wateen’s staff is because of short-sightedness and lack of strategic vision of the top brass.
To me first impression is the last and Wateen has miserably failed to live up to this expectation. They went for quantity and cheap resources and compromised on quality.
I would like to share my experience of totally messed up online service. Since last two weeks I have been following up my complaint for fault in wateen’s telephone service. The fault is that when a caller dials my Wateen number and later disconnects the call then at my end phone keep buzzing. Strange is not it? Ringer of one of my telephone sets has already been damaged because of this fault. This happened while I was away from my home and in my absence not at my home and someone rang at my number and when I reached home I found the bell ringing with an irritating and annoying tone/sound. Later I found that ringer speaker got damaged as it kept buzzing for hours though the other party/caller might have disconnected the phone after a minute but at my end it kept ringing for hours till I reached home.
This fault was originally in the service when I subscribed; I guess three week back but it is still to be rectified by the best of best technical team or engineers of Wateen!!!!
Today I again contacted their help line and ask for status and receive reply we have referred the matter to our technical team with underlying message “Don’t disturb us we are in total “Thaund Program”.
So I am going to put widened agenda before the present Government: Impeachment, Restoration of judiciary, Get my telephone fault rectified!!!!!

Wateen and IBM – Why shake hands?
Folks, does anyone know about the latest offers being provided by Wateen? I heard they signed an agreement with IBM and being provided with some more integrity. Well, I don’t know much about it but just read about it on a blog. But I can’t get it. Can anyone help me out? Why Wateen is shaking hands with IBM and what are going to be the advantages?

Progress? I don’t think so. Make it trillions but wateen’s customer services need replacement. Change wont’ do any good. I’m happy with PTCL. It is not wireless but it works
August 22nd, 2008 at 11:56 am
Lol. So am I. But not with PTCL, with Wateen. I haven’t seen any flaws in customer care services. They provide with direct contact with high officials.. I haven’t called at Wateen more than a few times, but the few times when I did, the experience wasn’t bad.
