First it was city specific, then it was company specific, now its university specific. Brightspyre has been constantly expanding and innovating itself as a leading provider to job-search portals in Pakistan, and this recent development had me take my admiration of the team up a notch.

On 15th April, they launched a job board specifically targeting the students of GIKI.

In my opinion, this is a genuine need in the country. With so much time and effort expended by companies in scouting universities for top new employees, having it extend into the online world was the only logical choice. The way it works is simple, and is benefiting to both sides of the equation.

On one hand, students of GIKI get jobs specifically targeted towards them, and they know if they apply through this portal, their application is going to get preference. Afterall, the employers wants them! That effectively raises their chances of securing a good job many basis points.

One the other hand, employers routinely filter resume’s on the basis of university attended because lets face it, not every university is equal. While I’m not in favor of this practice and would rather judge the candidate rather than their university background, at the back of my mind, its still a pretty strong filter. Specific job boards then also allow employers to sort through applications more effectively, since they now know where they’re coming from.

A win-win situation…. right?…. not exactly. You see, proponents of fair employment practices would try to take down this effort on the basis of equality and fairness, and they would be right in a sense. When employers target specific universities for their next round of freshers, they are essentially creating a class system in which anyone who doesn’t belong to a higher strata (IBA, LUMS, GIKI etc) doesn’t get a chance. But again, not something which has not been happening before anyway, at least as far as the initial filtering is concerned. The good news here is, as hiring processes are becoming more and more sophisticated and candidate based, the idea that just because you attended LUMS means you get in, is slowly fading away.

Also, in my opinion, these job boards will help freshers get their first jobs, and not affect how hiring of experienced personnel is done. However that still remains to be seen. If these university specific job boards take on the the format of an alumni association, then we just might be standing on the brink of a major change in the hiring world.

mansoor: I sort of agree with you but I think a university specific job site will give students a bit of a secure access to use their university portal site to think about their future careers. It is quite normal in countries like US/Canada .. so overall I think its a good move.

it is employers responsibility to keeep an open mind towards hiring the best. Google heavly targets Stanford to get their fresh grads….

its all about taking initiatives at this level and brightspyre has most of the time did managed to take such steps at right time. This will help students in accessing lots of jobs under one platform and it will create more awareness among graduating students regarding the market trends.

    well done BrightSpyre Team !!

  3. Javaid Ghani Said:

This is so hypocritical. When Rozee launches these efforts, Osama call it marketing B.S. When BrightSpyre does it, it’s hailed as a miracle.

Osama, does Green and White make money from BrightSpire ads posted on this site? Yes or no. Thanks.

  4. smaak Said:

    @Javaid;

we should respect both the organizations for launching such services, but i don’t see Osama being HYPOCRITICAL, why would he do this?

This is a platform to share the views not a platform to have personal attacks!

  5. smaak Said:

@javaid- one thing more this article was written by Mansoor not Osama :P hehe

oh my God! Did I miss Osama bashing? I am sort of enjoying this fiasco, apart from some moments back when I actually started to get headaches :P

  7. Javaid Ghani Said:

This is not Osama bashing. Let me put it in very simple terms:

    Osama says:

Rozee Campus Portal - BAD BAD BAD
BrightSpyre Campus Portal - YAAAY GOOOD MY HEROS

BrightSpyre pays for putting ads on Osama’s website. When this was mentioned, he censored the comments. Why? Everyone can see the ads. It’s a true statement. Why delete it if there is nothing to hide?

  8. ujmi Said:

Did BrighSpyre get 12 million Rupees from Govt of Pakistan (in a rip off manner) for this silly service?

And ok if you say so its not Osama bashing, I will agree, otherwise hard to accept :P The thing has flown over each and every post at the moment :)

  9. Javaid Ghani Said:

Rip off manner… quite funny my friend.

The software Rozee creates is open source and property of the government of Pakistan. Yes, your government. Not Rozee. Did you know this?

BrightSpyre’s far more limited and unimaginative “job portal” for schools is their own private property benefitting no one but themself.

Do you even understand the rigorous checks and controls for getting a grant approval from ICT? Do you understand the auditing process that happens every month on those funds?

You call Rozee’s service silly and yet hail a far more limited version by BrightSpyre.

I don’t get it? Isn’t that silly as well then?

    again personal attacks !!

No ..BS didnt get fund from any of their services since 2002- as rozee is a fully funded job portal.

Aim should be facilitating jobseekers and employers…neways best of luck !!

hi guys.. i was just visiting this site and saw ur comments… despite the fact that both job sites have pros and corns but in my and my friends view BS is more focused and service oriented then Rozee. as am a graduating(business studies) student and am one of the high visitors of both the sites… but i feel jobs posted on Rozee are either not valid or they arn’t entertained by employers. in addition to that they are giving low quality with more quantity to their job seekers….

Just wana share one of my personal exp with you guys:
I hav my profile on both web sites (up2date).. 3 months back i received a call from rozee, offering me an interview call for IT assistant in xyz company in karachi.. i was stunned and astonished - and saying nothin i hang up the call…
but that was sth that cleared a difference b/t both org’s.. Plus there are many more of such incidents that i hv heard about Rozee.pk..

In end all i wana say that, my view point might not have that weight & it wont make tht difference over all but Rozee guys u need to improve alot in your services…

Is it true that both FAST and NUST have switched to Rozee’s campus portal and delinked BS? I heard Mobilink, PTCL and the United Nations all switched from BS to Rozee as well. Come on BS, catch up, you’re falling behind!!!
