Zong is a consumer / youth-centric brand from China Mobile that is making waves with their very eye-catching ads, and with the fact that they are pulling people out of Mobilink with full zeal. One of their ads that appeared in print media recently is below:
This ad does a very good job of summarizing the “state of slang and cultural memes among the youth” if you will.
But looking closely you find a couple of even more interesting things…
e.g. the fact that they are very very subtly poking fun at the taglines of competing telecos - can you guess which ones?
Even more hilarious is this piece right at the bottom:
Yes that is actually part of the ad - poor poor guy.

Its a brilliant idea! The whole fresh brand image thing, with inevitable full page ads introducing packages is just background noise these days. This ad does a great job of getting noticed. I think i spent a few minutes going through the graffiti, very entertaining.
They’ve got a nice Zong jingle too
Which telco are they poking fun at??

At least one I can recognize,
Ufone advertisement these days says,
“Ufone, Tum hi to ho” OR “It’s all about you”
and the Zong ad says
“Excuse me, its all about me. OK?”

In the sentence “This ad’s a proof-readers nightmare”, the apostrophe in “ad’s” is correct and shouldn’t be cancelled (as shown), but in “readers”, the apostrophe should be after the r and before the s.

Dear Friends, Today Zong is Launched and when I heard its Packages, I was shocked, becoz I really need these kind of Package.
