Osama A.

Hi new visitor! At Green & White we discuss startups, business models, new media marketing, usability and more.

You can subscribe to the RSS feed or subscribe for email alerts so that you keep up to date with the latest content. Now, on with the regular content...

Updates: Ok this shot off a little firestorm so I need to clarify things further here!

1- There’s absolutely nothing wrong between PASHA and us. They’ve done a brilliant job of taking care of all aspects of SI even when we were busy elsewhere.

2- Thats the thing though - lately we’ve just been getting busier on other initiatives around our new-media publications, such as G&W and DFU. Its not fair to stay associated with SI if we’re not doing any part of the planning of it. The people who deserve credit should continue to take it further.

3- I will still be present in some of the upcoming SI events but as a panelist / participant and not an organizer.

4- G&W is evolving, but I’m not sure where to. We’re trying to see how to take it to the next level but we’ll just have to see what threads mature over the next couple of months. Until then, stay tuned.

5- Thanks to the people from the community who emailed me with their support. Hopefully whatever we’ll be doing next will be useful for everyone in the community.

Well this might be a surprise for some, but not for all. Green & White is not going to be an initiative partner on Startup Insiders moving forward - SI is a PASHA only event from now.

SI has grown immensely from our input over the past couple of months, and on its own it has evolved into a series of training sessions to walk potential young entrepreneurs-to-be through the multi-faceted process of starting companies, envisioning products and going through the pains of introducing them into the market.

We feel that while SI as it is is still useful to some people, that it can go on without us.What we want to focus on instead is a series of other initiatives to provide a compelling platform for startups that are already out there making things happen.

Moving forward, we would like to focus our inputs on finding ways of better helping existing entrepreneurs with brilliant ideas - people who are already going through their startup pains, so that they might be able to find actionable business support from our platform. Some of the entrepreneurs have mentioned their desire for Green & White to become a platform that helps startups to prepare for funding support, while others have asked us to provide activities like the BarCamp model where startups help other startups over constructive idea-building sessions. Others still hope that we will be able to expand the reach and depth of G&W’s news coverage of activities.

Hopefully we’ll be able to announce some of these initiatives over time.

For the moment, good luck to the SI team and lets hope it is able to evolve onto something bigger.

    Hmm…

Why not you share suggestion from your side to make SI session more effective?

  2. Jawwad Said:

And how are the greater things you are doing on the side really that different from the current activities plannned or performed on the SI platform.

  3. Osama A. Said:

    Jawwad,

The things we’re trying on G&W are very different from SI’s platform.

I’ll be working with some people from the community to see how they’d like us to get things done.

    Osama.

    interesting development..

well I wish you all the best to whatever it is that G&W is trying to accomplish.

  5. Adnan Said:

I’m confused. What is G&W trying to do?

  6. ob Said:

here is my observation of what G&W has NOT being doing:

    1. Not covering interesting technology coming out of Pakistan or being created by Pakistanis around the world.

    2. Not covering startups that are based in Pakistan or even ran by Pakistanis.

There are enough startups that G&W introduced to us but then never really went back to see how they are doing. Case in point: Lootmar… i have been following their blog myself and i find that they are doing a lot of neat stuff that G&W should be covering..

PS: Sorry Osama, i know this post will really tick you off but i am just giving my 2cents.

    […] Green & White blog - Even though they’ve dissociated from SI’s. […]

    @OB

I don’t agree with you. I remember first SI session and the time when Osama came towards me, shake hand and asked me “So, what is the name of your startup?” …. he is one of the great motivations forces behind these sessions…

Usually, every one loves results… but there are always confusion on execution of plans to get desire results … and we should consider ‘difference of opinion’ (if in case) as positive.

Osama, whatever you and G&W are doing … I hope your support will be continue for SI sessions and don’t forget we love to see entrepreneurs among us.

  9. Osama A. Said:

@Qasim: Thanks - keep tuned to whatever we end up doing to help you guys further.

@Obaid: True, but you know sometimes its because the startups in question disappear after a first show (hint :p)

  10. ob Said:

@Qasim: I definitely agree with you. Osama has been a great but for last couple of weeks we were not getting any stories out of him..

@Osama: Yes they do.. or do they just go into stealth mode..

Either way I found that G&W has been doing great job. And today’s posts made my day!!

  11. Faisal Butt Said:

Osama, I wish you the best of luck with G&W..I enjoy your stories (mainly because you give me relevant news on entrepreneurship/innovation with a local context, which I can’t find on bbc.com or other news sites). Next time you’re in Islamabad, please do get in touch and I’d be happy to help you brainstorm on how to take this further. We’re planning a TiE Islamabad launch event next month. would be great if you could attend.

  12. Rakesh Said:

I’d definitely look forward to seeing you on upcoming SI sessions.
