Career Prospects in the Telecom Industry of Pakistan

About the author

In the previous post, I discussed the pros and cons of working in the Call Centers or BPO Industry. Taking a step further, I’ll try to inform the “student” segment of our readers about the career prospects in the Telecom Industry of Pakistan. I’ll not go into elaborate details about the Telecom scene in Pakistan as we all are very much aware of the Telecom Scene (Thanks to G & W and other such sites).

As we’re experiencing a massive boom in the Pakistani Telecom sector, job opportunities are also increasing at light’s speed. Literally, Telecom sector has revolutionized the job sector in Pakistan and has become the largest job provider in Pakistan. Cases in point; if you log in to any job site of Pakistan, you’ll observe that roughly around two-thirds of job postings are related to the Telecom industry in a way or other.

This post mainly deals with job opportunities in the Telecom sector for our engineering graduates. Of late, there have been a lot of universities offering degrees in Telecom Engineering. The Electrical and Electronic Engineering programs have also been upgraded by the universities, thus offering majors in Telecom related fields. Job opportunities definitely depend on the standing of the university and the quality of education imparted. Still, the Telecom Industry in Pakistan has gone through such huge expansion that virtually no Engineering graduate (who has done majors in Electronics or Telecom Engineering) is jobless here (Job Opportunities for CS graduates will be dealt with in a separate post). Telecom Industry in Pakistan is hiring from every university, whether it’s a hi-fi one (like GIKI or NUST), and the “Sarkari” and Private universities (recognized by HEC) and even in some cases from the “Dhaba” universities, to meet the ever growing demands.

Having assured our graduating engineers with great job opportunities in the Telecom industry, now let me brief you a bit about the salary structures in this industry. Telecom industry is one of the highest paying employers in Pakistan. Mobile companies generally pay you the highest, to be more precise. Coming back to the salaries issue, salaries for beginners in the Telecom industry starts from 15-35K. It definitely depends on the Market Position of the employer, the GPA you have achieved and finally from which university have you graduated. By the way guys, if you have secured good Internships in your junior years, then the chances of better employment will definitely be higher.

As the Telecom sector is the fastest growing one in the world (with new technologies developing every day), we can hope that career prospects will remain higher in this industry for many years to come. So if any of our readers has yet to decide about one’s future course and is interested in the Telecom industry, I would advice him/her to embrace this field with open arms. As our readers include the bigwigs and Professionals of the Telecom Industry, I would request them to further enlighten us in this regard. Thanks

Whatever he has mentioned about revolutionizing and booming of telecom industry emphasising on being highly paid jobs are nothing but mare speculation. The fact being is that telecomm industry is facing its downfall and job openings are saturated.Having said that i have no intentions of discouraging anyone from pursuing a telecom career if they feel the thirst of knowledge for communication, but to warn thoes who are just getting carried away reading such fantasizing article in which the author goes to point of mentioning that “hardly any elect./telecomm graduate is jobless”. This statement can be taken more as a scarcasm then fact.
