Most likely they sent this out to everyone, but I chuckled when I received an anonymous SMS from them with info that seemed like they wanted me to announce on G&W :)

Wishful thinking, I know, but here is the SMS message in full:

“Ufone network expansion worth over Rs.32Billion is successfully being rolled out throughout Pakistan. So far 150 plus new cities / towns have been launched”

A $500MM expansion? I think this is another operator in the race to the rural areas that I still have to write about.

It is a bit interesting that they sent out that announcement to their network though — are they afraid of customer churn in the wake of MNP, and especially with many recently complaints of poor network quality?

Maybe. I know I am considering a switch.

Or maybe this is an attempt at creating viral marketing — it might work too.

They are spamming their subscribers with at least 2 messages a day announcing arrival of new ring tones, opening of new outlet or as you mentioned, expansions.
