Hi new visitor! At Green & White we discuss startups, business models, new media marketing, usability and more.

Ok, I am cheating just a bit, because these people are primarily operating in Canada, and they’re not really a startup. However, given their Pakistani team and their plans to launch in Pakistan soon, it qualifies as a locally focused startup.
Ooober is an edge-centric product. They offer a full mobile content and voting portal, but the twist is that they let YOU make your own customized content portal in a somewaht whitelabelled way.
So suppose I wanted to be able to send out a user opinion poll on all the cellphones of Green&White readers, and I wanted to sell different pictures of coffee mugs for my readers to use as their cellphone wallpapers (admit it, just LOOKING at coffee will give you a good boost) I would set up my own mobile content portal at Ooober.
Their business model for Ooober Basic follows the Freemium model, where there is a free version, but a paid premium version can allow greater space / customization. For mobile content, this might work for the Coca Colas of the world who want to use mobile content in their branding plans.
Mobile Content is a huge area of growth, one that is expected to become a $40B market by 2010, and is big enough for Apple to justify the $MM expense in launching a mobile device. Ooober seems to be in a decent position in this space and have some control over the messaging / voting and polling areas.
OooberPRO is for telecos — they will provide infrastructure support for messaging, voting, SMS2TV and other such applications.
I met these guys at the Rozee Job Fair where they were recruiting for their Islamabad office. Their management seems to be an experienced team who have some vision on creating conducive working environments.
From what I hear now, they’re picking up top programming talent in JAVA-based backend infrastructure, and are trying to create a Google-esqe casual environment in their office.
Let’s see how it works out, and we’ll look forward to the summer launch in Pakistan.
I’ll post some analysis on whether the “branded storefronts for consumers” can work here — what do you think though?
